Now that the 08' season has come to a close, what do you think next season is going to look like? Who's leading the pack? Possible dark horses or contenders for 4a state? Just general thoughts on how you think next year is going to play out.

so here's what Area B is looking to be like to me...

Sherman

Aledo

The Colony

Centennial

Birdville

Southwest

Justin

Wakeland

Timberview

Newman Smith

That's easily the top 10... top 3-5... who really knows??? You have 4 bands that made it last time around... Plus the two alternates, and the alternate from the 5A Area B Marching Competition in this area. It's going to be another brutal year in this Area of Texas.

Will Legacy be 4A or 5A next year? I know that they'll be moving up soon but I can't remember if it'll happen in 2009.

They will be 4A next year and look prepared to make a HUGE splash at 4A State. They should move up to 5A in 2010.

u mean Joshua, right?

anyways, yeah that's about how i see it, birdville had the new band director this year and they picked up from where they left off in 2005 which i believe was bronze medalist. sherman is always a consistent state finalist, and aledo just made boa finals this year, and are very strong. the colony has always been very consistent but their numbers are diminishing which creates a bit of an issue. southwest, although i have never seen them maybe makes me feel they are kinda like flower mound( great concert season group but not as strong marching) don't get me wrong i'm not saying they are bad i'm just saying they are better concert wise. timberview has flipflopped a bunch w/us so we know them pretty well. as for newman smith any band that went from 5A area finalist to 4A is definately considered a legitmate contender. as for us, we'll see

That couldn't be more true. However, this past season is the first year we've had a really strong marching program. If we can maintain and improve on that next year, then we ought to do pretty well. I think what really made the difference in our marching program this year, is an addition to our staff. We hired a third band director and he's amazing to have on the marching field.

4A Area D is going to look completely different without Connally, Vista Ridge, and New Braunfels (all moved up to 5A).

I have a feeling we might have to go back to 4a in a few years. With Rouse opening up, we only have one solid middle school to recruit from.

Not to mention the other new HS that is supposed to be opening up down there in the near future.

That high school is going to hurt Cedar Park populationwise.

Cedar Park is projected to go down to 4A level next year.

Leander, Vista Ridge (maybe), and Rouse (maybe) will likely be the only 5A schools in the district come next realignment, with Cedar Park and Vandegrift being 4A.

Can you imagine Cedar Park as a 4A band?! Wow...that's all I can say.

I think Vista will definitely go 4A again for a little while though. The 5th school is just planning in advance for the growth, so eventually all of these programs will be 5A again.

Umm. Probably not (3rd page).

And in the long powerpoint the district has on demography up until 2018 (Last 5 or so slides is HS stuff), it doesn't seem like Cedar Park will grow much more and Vista repeatedly gets cut.

But you never know. The district could do something to like make Cedar Park a second IB campus or request it and Vista to stay 5A.

But anywayy. I want to see how Hays will do in Area D next year. With 3 powerhouses out, they may challenge for a spot to state along with Steele.

HAHA.

That's all I have to say about that.

Sounds just like Frisco...

They just keep cutting from new schools. Next year, Liberty is still staying 4A, but they are losing a lot people to Heritage High School. The year after that Wakeland gets cut for Lone Star High School to open... and I think the year after that they are cutting from Liberty again... not sure...

It will be so strange to not see Dickinson at 4A state marching contest. I think that makes Poteet the only currently 4A band to have won state in the past 20 years. :o

My gut says that this is going to be Friendswood's year. They've been carrying around that "best band to never win" label for the past two state cycles. Hendrickson is probably going to be the biggest threat at the rate they've been improving. I think some combination of those two bands will be our honor band/marching champion duo. I have my doubts about Poteet's continued success in the 4A field due to a shrinking talent pool in Mesquite, but they proved me wrong big time this year. Maybe they will again!

at least it's in two years so it gives us a full arsenal for next season's push, our schedule next year is really stacked, as of now they won't have a saturday off for 6 straight weeks b/c they are doing a bunch of contests. although they get to do boa arlington and san antonio something that i never got to so i'm kinda jealous

I know Rockwall-Heath is going all-out next year with their design staff with a show designed by Wes Cartwright. Drill by Brian Youngblood. And Music by Richard Saucedo.
