teacher Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 WATCH THE MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE! The James Bowie High School Marching Band from Austin, TX will be marching in tomorrow's parade. We are proud of the band, hope you enjoy their performance. ***James Bowie High School placed 4th place at this year's BOA San Antonio and placed 5th at this year's 5A UIL competition. Quote
Xenon Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Here is the e-mail with some more details that somebody else received regarding this: It is a huge honor for the band to be chosen to march and the kids (and parents) have been planning since May of 2006 for the big trip to New York City. They took buses across the country (7 buses) and spent 2 days in Washington DC, seeing the Capital, Mt. Vernon, Smithsonian, etc. They laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, too. They have a full schedule while in New York, but I'm sure his greatest memories will be of those times shared with his friends. They work so hard during Marching Band Season, to learn their 'show' and to perfect it for competition. It is nice that they have time to relax together. If you'd like to watch the parade while you're getting the turkey in the oven, here are the details: Band Name: James Bowie High School, Austin Texas: may be called Bowie H.S. Band size: 250 Uniform Colors: black pants, white and red coats, black hats with black plumes. The parade begins at 9 o'clock here, with the band performing on the stage in front of Macy's after 2 hours and 23 minutes of parade. So, they should be on at 11:23 a.m. whether you are in the Eastern or Central Time zones. I believe this trend of delaying TV parade coverage so that it starts at 9 a.m. applies to all time zones, but you might want to confirm this is true for you in your local TV listings. As I mentioned earlier, his band should be on camera about 2 hours and 23 minutes after the parade starts. Quote
Clarinot Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 In other news... the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade got rickrolled Quote

urkadrums Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I never saw the Bowie Band in the parade, but I must have just not been looking at the TV the exact time they were on screen, or missed them by like, 5 minutes. Did anyone see them? Quote

GuitarJoe Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Speaking of the Macy's Parade, I LOVE West Johnston's uniforms. Quote

They actually call themselves that. Me and my friends got a laugh out of it when the announced the "James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble" at BOA finals. But hey, when your as good as they are, I guess you can call yourself what you want. Quote
treblemaker Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 urkadrums said: Haha, I liked how Meredith Vieira called them a Drum and Bugle Corps And they were also called the James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble, not marching band? Correct. They are not a marching band. They are an Outdoor Performing Ensemble. Quote
takigan Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I kinda hoped with Tarpon Springs and Bowie calling themselves "Outdoor Performance Ensembles" and Centerville with the "Centerville Jazz Band" gig they've got going, we'd start to see a new trend with that nomenclature. But it seems like these are the only groups that are doing it. I do seem to recall some band referring to themselves as a "Marching Wind Symphony" or "Marching Wind Ensemble" but I forget who it was. adam12343210 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) I think you're forgetting about the Reagan Soul Train Drumline (scroll down on the side)... Edited November 30, 2008 by adam12343210 Quote
