Today 12-20-2008 around 8am, the RCA Dome in Indianapolis was imploded. The RCA Dome was the home to BOA Grand Nationals for many many years and this represents the official close to an era.

I consider myself very lucky to have performed at the RCA Dome. Being in the airlock as a Freshman and as a Senior were very different experiences but the eagerness to perform and "Max Out" were prevalent in both situations. I'm sad to see the RCA Dome drop.

Scariest RCA Dome Memory: 1999 Grand National Semifinals.

We stood outside the airlock and watched Plymouth-Canton. We went on right after them. Yikes.

Funnest RCA Dome Memory: 2002 Grand National Finals Retreat

Band students from Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Marian Catholic, and other programs came together for a group photo after retreat. I met a lot of great friends from all over the country and it was awesome to hang out with them, if only for a short while.

wow.

I'm really gonna miss that place...

I remember in 05 when the Reagan trombones played lowrider after retreat

and standing there again in 07 watching the video at retreat reliving all of my marching band memories as my marching career came to an end

I will absolutely miss the RCA Dome. I was privileged enough to have taken the field there 20 times (4 Indianapolis regionals, 4 times at Grand Nationals, made finals at every event), and it...was just a great feeling every time. From warming up in the Convention Center, to walking down to the airlock, to praying together as a group and reciting Bernstein's Almighty Father.

So many memories in there that I got to see and be a part of:

-The debacle that was top 5 scoring in 2001, plus watching Bell for the first time.

-The awesomeness that was Lassiter in 2002.

-The non-placements in 2003, and performing our finals show in honor of Plymouth-Canton and Lake Park, who had both missed finals for the first time.

BOA's had some interesting places for Grand Nationals: Whitewater, Wisconsin, Jacksonville, Florida, the Dome at East Tenessee State University, the Hoosier/RCA Dome, the Pontiac Silverdome, and finally, Lucas Oil Stadium.

Who wants to go in with me and buy a piece of the roof? :)

Farewell, RCA Dome.

It was fun marching on your turf while it lasted.

Gosh, now I feel like I can be one of those old men that can say "You know, I remember marching in that there BOA contest in the OLD Colts' stadium!"
