euphownz Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I don't know if you wanna give it away to others, or if your band directors let you, but I just thought if you know anything about next year's show you might wanna share. Quote
eNVy Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 don't want to divulge too much about our show but it's REALLY dark...It's really awesome. quite artistic compared to what we have done in the past. plus, i think our band works a lot better with dark shows so it will be a nice change. Quote
rpd Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I too don't want to reveal to much about it, but I think ours is going to be quiet intense too. I was talking to one of the Assistant directors about it and he said we may try and get original music for the show. Should be interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing them pull it off next year. We have no idea what the music is going to be, but the concept is becoming pretty solidified. Quote
titancoaster Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Connally's show next year is going to be extremly good next year. It will be a very different show than Carpe Noctem from this year and should make quite a statement at the BOA contests that Connally is doing next year. Oh and we are having a staff addition that will bring the show to an even higher caliber, but I will not say who just yet . Quote
Mellophone77 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Nice to see other people excited for next year also...I'm not sure but knowing Plano it will involve some jazz Quote
euphownz Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 I don't wanna give to much away about our show either =P. I can say the whole thing is centered around one piece, and it will be pretty opposite from this year. There will be lots of woodwind stuff =O Quote
manuel_pablo Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I came from a school where this this not-wanting-to-reveal-anything-about-our-show business was a big deal, but I don't like it. Quote

ftwdrummer Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 The directors have dropped enough veiled hints for me to figure out what the show is...but the official announcement doesn't come until Monday. And I'll have to check with them to see if it's ok to post. Quote
dmbalash Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 This is from Craig Fitzpatrick's website: (He's Cypress Ridge's designer:) "Finding Sanctuary" music based on: John Mackey's Quote

takigan Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I really wanted hear the premier of Asphalt Cocktail that was premiered yesterday by the Michigan State Wind Symphony at the CBDNA convention in Austin, but sadly I couldn't go and I couldn't get the live webcast of the performance to work either . Show writers seem to waste no time getting the latest stuff on the field. And that's one thing I love about this activity. I was amazed at how quickly Daniel Montoya got Eric Whitacre's The Stolen Child (disturbing name for a piece, btw :l ) put together for Brazoswood's show this past 2008 season considering the premier of it was done the previous April. I'll put money on there being some shows this Fall based around Whitacre's Paradise Lost--lack of available published score aside. Quote

rpd Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Any show that uses Symphony no. 9 by Dvorak gets automatic interest from me. Quote
Montoya Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Wow... how'd you manage to get Carmina Burana? Edited April 4, 2009 by Montoya Quote
the terminator Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 who knows, our director has amazing connections, but this show is going to be a lot of fun b/c we plan on having a sort of romeo and juliet kinda deal except with chess pieces Quote
takigan Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 What's so hard about getting Carmina? Are the copyright holders pretty stingy with it or something? Quote
Montoya Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Contrary to popular belief, Carmina Burana is NOT public domain. Much like Puccini, the rights of Orff's music fell to his estate. His estate has controlled his music since his death. There was a time when they allowed Synchronization and Licensing Rights (permission to arrange) but now, they deny all requests and point to the ONE approved, "official", arrangement of the the work. If I remember correctly, it is distributed by Hal Leonard. But I could be wrong. Quote
Xenon Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Yeah, Carmina Burana is on BOA's website as one of the pieces that nearly impossible to get licensing for. This used to be the case with music from SquareSoft/SquareEnix (Final Fantasy) but Westfield broke through that barrier. Persichetti is also very hard to get, but Churchill was able to do it a few years ago. Oh, and just ask Montoya about California Dreamin. Quote

That's really awesome, i love this piece it is so epic Quote
