Like where the most bands come from? Or maybe the areas with the highest regional attendance? I don't know if that would make a difference but it's a thought. Grand Nationals gains most of its attendance from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky programs. Although the distance for these programs may seem far, we have to understand that all three of these states could probably fit inside Texas. I'm willing to bet that over half of Grand Nationals participants live within 300 miles of Indianapolis. Take that same circumference, put it in the middle of Texas, and you would barely reach past our borders. We sometimes forget how large our State is. Anytime you have a layover in your own State, you know you're large! Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hey apparently there's been some talk of Texas seceding in the news recently. Maybe we can just have our own national competition : P Quote

Didn't someone do a map (Daniel, Dan, Balas, Bui?) that showed that Indy was actually the most EQUAL OPPORTUNITY for bands in the WHOLE COUNTRY? Oh that's right... I forget our motto: Texas... It's like a whole other country. :-p I wonder if you took the area of Texas that's centered around Austin, picked it up and dropped it on top of Indianapolis, I wonder if the area contained within that area would have a larger number of band programs than Texas has Band programs within its state lines. That same landmass would have a far larger number of High Schools due to the high population that's centered in that area but I wonder if there are more competitive marching bands. Regardless of that, I feel like the response from Texas bands would be so dramatic at having Nationals right in their own backyard that the roster for GN would fill up almost entirely even before the non-Texas bands got a chance to sign up--just from the novelty of it all. Not to mention the overall quality of the bands competing would be at a higher level than if the contest were held in Indianapolis, especially if the remaining slots were filled by the heavy hitting midwestern regulars or Cobb County stronghold schools. Still, it's just not cost-effective, which is why it'll never happen. Especially in these financial times. Quote

The rest of the drive is a piece of cake!! Quote

b_sax_agent Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Yes, Richland is not going to Grand Nationals next year. Which is sad, because next years music is going to be really good. (I don't have permission to disclose the music) Quote
takigan Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Richland ALWAYS has really good music. I don't think I've encountered a show by Richland that hasn't totally wowed me since 2002 or 3. Quote
whitewing09 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 They should move the gnats every once in a while I think that would be interesting, but what do I know? Quote

BOA received a sweetheart deal from Indianapolis to move their offices there, and they get a good discount on the use of LOS. Quote
whitewing09 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 How weak, Texas should get a chance to dominate gnats Quote

And dmbalash is right...BOA has a deal with Indy. And if it's anything like WGI, they also have a contract. Quote
IMcom-Josh Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) Despite Richland no longer attending GN (despite them still being on the list), James Bowie looks to have opted to go back once again as well. It is always a pleasure to see many Texas bands come and look forward to seeing all that you bring. It is a shame that Richland wasn't able to come since I have always enjoyed the shows they have put out (that I have seen anyway ). As for Texas domination, sure it COULD happen. Anything is possible. But don't expect us to roll over and not give a fight. Personally, Marcus is my favorite to win this year. Best of luck this year to all bands though! radchad Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 So with the exception of '08, at least 3 made finals each year. Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Texas definitely has a chance to take 2 of the top 3 spots =D Anyone know the deal on Woodlands?? Placed 3rd at BOA Houston, have they improved enough to dominate the competition at BOA SA? Quote
