johnalex Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 What is the "going rate" for band camp instructors? I've been out of the loop for a while and wanted to get some other opinions. I know that there isn't a standard rate of pay and it depends on the program and the instructor, but if I could get some other peoples pay or what they think is normal for a weeks work at band camp, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks Quote

Would the instructor be employed for only the band camp or throughout the Fall season as well? How long is band camp? Also, the number of responsibilities the instructor has should also play a part in how much they receive each week. Quote
johnalex Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 I'm looking for a week of band camp with about 6 hours a day, hope that clarifies, thanks Quote
takigan Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Sounds like a post for the Yellowboard, but I'll offer what I can. I made $200 for a week camp last summer. It was 4 hours a day for 5 days but a lot of it was breaks and lounging.....I probably did about 2 hours of actual teaching per day, so it was basically $10/hr for being there, $20/hr for actual teaching. This was a 4A program and was actually a little bit on the cheap side, but it's not like they had any difficulty finding people what with being next to a large university and all. My roommate is a marching tech in Cypress and he makes about $30/hr during the school year in the evenings. This is pretty typical, as they treat it as if they were paying a private lesson teacher, just teaching multiple students. 30 hours of teaching huh? I'd do it for no less than $500 if it's constant teaching, but I know there are people out there who would do it for less in these times. $750 would be typical. Quote
