2009 Honor Band

Late in the season last year, TMEA started to host the results of the various Honor Band competitions. Well, this year, they have been doing a great job with keeping up with it from the very start of the competition season and even include hearing dates and locations in addition to who the advancers are.

This year bands from 4A, 2A, 3C, and 2C schools are eligible to compete.

Way to go Central Texas middle schools! Henry from Cedar Park and Grisham from Round Rock!

Grisham was up against some insane competition from some top-notch schools. I fully expected them to lose to Coppell North, since Grisham took 2nd to CN last time they were elgible to compete. I was pleasantly surprised when they came out on top.

 

Random fun fact of personal relevance; Stephen Krupicka, the band director with 1A 4th placer; Shiner HS graduated from Georgetown High School in I think 97 or 98.

A big Congrats to Friendswood for getting the Honor Band title the second time in a row that they have been eligible. After seeing these results it should be an interesting 4A state year with Poteet (past honor band champ) vs Friendswood (current honor band) and Dripping Springs vs Hendrickson. DP vs HHS because usually hendrickson dominates area D in concert and marching bands, but now Dripping Springs is on the rise and may prove to be a strong force in the Area D competition and in State Finals. I cant wait for marching season to get started!!!
