2009 Duncanville Marching Invitational

This looks like it is going to be a huge year for the DMI. If you include Duncanville's exhibition, there will be 3 former UIL State Champions, 4 of the 2008 5A State Finalists, 7 bands that have made 5A State Finals at least once, and 3 bands that have made 4A State Finals at least once (not counting those that are currently 5A and are in the previous stat).

This looks like a very healthy contest to watch. Marcus was wise to put themselves in this event, considering that the Super Regional is a week early this year.

This contest gives BOA Arlington a run for its money. It doesn't have quite as many heavy hitters but I don't see a single mediocre band on this list. Even the weakest bands are still Div 1 bands.

Yes, the DMI gives an Outstanding Percussion award in Prelims but not Finals.

Flower Mound was 11th but had 2 Music and 1 Marching judge place them in Finals.

 

Lake Highlands was 12th but had 2 Music and 2 Marching judges place them in Finals.

I got there at 12:15 and saw a lot of the bands that ended up in the finals. I am amazed by the variety of shows and band sizes for 5A.
