luckyace007 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 as contest season approaches, who do yall expect to be in for state, and who do yall think will be in the top spots at state Quote
ftwdrummer Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I think Southwest might actually be able to make the breakthrough to State this year. Last year was the first year they've had a true solid marching program, and they're still one of the top musical bands in the state. And they're doing Harmonic Journey this year. If they can pull it off, they deserve to go to State. I can't see them not achieving that show musically...and, at the very least, their visual can't be as bad as Phantom's was that year. Quote
titancoaster Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Well, I have heard that Dripping Springs is doing amazing this year and will be fighting for a first place medal and a definant leader in the stacked area d. Friendswood and Poteet will make strong showings as is typical of the schools. I just hope that someone will take Poteet down, two times in a row is enough, let someone else win. I think it will be a good contest with some new names in state finals (Legacy?) seeing as three finalists (two of them medalists) are now 5A. I am looking forward to a great season for 4A programs! Mad.Hatter Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I'm a BIG A-D fan, but have to agree with "drippin_tuba2010" until I see some of the bands. I think Hendrickson and Dripping Springs are probably locks to make State. But after that, it's a guess at this point - just based on results from the last couple of years. Maybe Steele, maybe McCallum? Quote
Mad.Hatter Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Oh, with regards to the topic of who'll be in the top spots - I also think Hendrickson and Dripping Springs will make finals at State. Quote
Rocktapus512 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 What music is Hendrickson doing this year? Quote
the terminator Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 what about wakeland i think any band that finished 2nd in honor band to friendswood has to be considered a threat to make state and possibly finals Quote

The very next year, we got a division II at UIL. Our marching program at that time, however, was completely underdeveloped. I fully expect Wakeland to do great this year. Quote
tubastillid.i Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 the guy who asked what music is hendrickson doing this year we are doing "javelin" and then "one day ill fly away " from moulin rouge Quote
beanpole Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) I think Aledo and Sherman will do well this year. Aledo has always had very cool shows that I've enjoyed. And I really like our show this year. Edited September 29, 2009 by beanpole Quote
drippin_tuba2010 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I'm very much looking forward to Poteet's show this year. PAst couple of years has been simply incredible from them. We'll see what they do this year. Quote
Rocktapus512 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) With Area D sending some strong bands to 5a, which area is going to be the one to watch this year? Also is this going to be the year Poteet gets taken off the top, or are they going to continue their dynasty? Edited September 29, 2009 by Rocktapus512 Quote
Mad.Hatter Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Hmmm.....the Area to watch this year? Although Area D lost Connally and Vista Ridge, I still think they'll put up some pretty good bands. Or maybe Area A with Aledo and Sherman. Area F was strong last time with 2 of the top 5 in state in '07, but they lost Dickinson to 5A. Quote

Aledo and Sherman are in Area B, along with Legacy, Newman Smith, Birdville, The Colony, Wakeland, Centennial, Timberview and Southwest (among others). THAT would be my area to watch. Quote

titancoaster Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 My predictions are, one medalist from Area D, one from area F, and the third from Poteet or if they are nocked off Area B. I think even though Area D lost talent, it still has two previous state finalists who will more then fill the empty shoes, and Area F has Friendswood a band that medaled in 03 and 05, and fourth in 07 so I think they will be able to grab a spot on the podium if you will (and if any Area F school manages to beat them they will definantly deserve a medal). whitewing09 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Area D will be pretty strong can't wait to see what they have sense they lost 3 really good bands Quote
Mad.Hatter Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) "Aledo and Sherman are in Area B..." Oops...didn't catch that. Somebody switched the A and B on my keyboard! Yes Area "B" and Area D. Edited October 1, 2009 by Mad.Hatter Quote
banddude12 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I've heard nothing but great things about wakeland this year. I think they will do very well this year. Quote
titancoaster Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Oh and after making finals at a tough BOA Houston Regional, I think we can add Dawson to the bands to watch in the UIL State race. Quote
titancoaster Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Ok so after three weeks of competition its clear that Friendswood and Dripping Springs are going to be in State Finals (and medal if they dont make any major mess-ups) and the third medal will probably go to Poteet. (The color of the medal each school is up for debate) I put Dripping Springs and Friendswood as clear medalists, due to the video I saw of Dripping Springs which was ABSOLUTLY AMAZING! and that FHS has proved its intent through a strong showing at BOA Pearland against some very stiff 5A competitors. I hesitate to put Poteet as a clear medalist due to the second place finish to McKinney Boyd and a third place in music at the Plano East Competition, while they did good, I am just not convinced that they are a lock for a medal.
