Mad.Hatter Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 First competition of the season in the area so scores may not mean too much. However, I think the bands I'd want to see what they have this year are Lake Travis, McCallum, Akins, Connally, Dripping Springs. Hendrickson is the host so they'll only march exhibition so I don't know if we'll see their score. We'll see several of these bands again at Westlake. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 The McNeil Mavs are bringing their A games and their new uniforms! Quote
Nancy08 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I was impressed with what I saw yesterday. Dripping Springs, Leander and Connally (top 3) are looking especially good for this early in the season. Quote

Danpod Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 The recaps on the USSBA website are about as confusing as a tax form in Mandarin. Quote

You're right I can't figure anything out there. They need a whole site revamp. There are recaps????? If you find it can you plz link to me? For those who attended can you talk a little bit about it? Mad.Hatter Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) Dripping Springs made an early bid for the Area D lead. They looked solid, sound was a little small but still very early. They have always had a great Guard and this year is no exception. Leander had a big sound and pretty much look ready for the season; several of the shows it looked like were not complete yet. Akins was pretty polished as well. Lake Travis' has a Japanese-themed show which looks good and they might make some noise at Area D this go-round. They use these taiko drums - I'd have liked them to use these more in the show than they did. The host band, Hendrickson, marched in exhibition so I don't know what their score was but I'd guess they were probably close to Leander. They were one of the bands who appeared not to have all their show in and I don't think they would have beat DS --would have been close, though. It will be interesting to watch Area D this year. Another point of note - many of the bands seem to be bringing a LOT of props to the field this season. Edited September 30, 2009 by Mad.Hatter Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 lol yea McNeil noticed that....we were lacking of props and visuals. Apparently our marching wasn't too good based on the judges tapes. lol Quote
longhornsax Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Dripping Springs is consistently really good early in the year. They are normally at the top of the early season competitions such as this one, and at westlake. They get their show really clean, really early. I'm curious to see if they can really make a push at the end of this year for medal contention. Quote
