I MARCH Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 What do u think is the greates ballad or slow piece in a marching show Quote
eNVy Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 depends on how well it's executed, considering ballads can be some of the hardest things you will ever play on field.... Quote
GuitarJoe Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 inb4ericwhitacrehype I like what some bands have done with Samuel Barber pieces (Bell 2003, The Woodlands 2004) Quote
whitewing09 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 The Adagio for strings that Cedar Park did last year was awesome Quote
ftwdrummer Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Santa Clara's treatments of Barber in 1999 (First Symphony) and 2000 (Agnus Dei [Adagio for Strings]). Whitacre's been used well on the field as well (Bell 2005 and 2007, Richland 2005, a whole lot of others). And I'm a sucker for Clair de Lune (Cedar Park 2007, Carolina Crown 2008, countless other renditions). Quote
Xenon Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Nessun Dorma and Barber's Symphony #1. Quote

takigan Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Tried and true: "Jupiter" by Gustav Holst "Nessun Dorma" by Giacomo Puccini "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre and some less obvious ones that I feel would make spectacular ballads if played by a quality group and scored under the right context: "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morton Lauridsen "Journey to the West" by Joe Hisaishi "The Oath" by Nobuo Uematsu "Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World" by Yasunori Mitsuda (much slower tempo) "A Boy and a Girl" by Eric Whitacre Quote

I MARCH Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 In My opinion The Lords Prayer is a great ballad along with adagio for strings. My band is doing go lovely rose its an ok arrangement. it would be better if they chose a different song. Quote

euphownz Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Oh man what I would give to hear a big time brass corps like Crown play "Sleep" - Eric Whitacre Quote
takigan Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 The Seattle Cascades did Sleep in 2007 and Capital Regiment did it in 2006. But yeah, hearing a Top 5 brassline perform it would be pretty amazing. Quote
