Awesome job. Great information on how early competitions work; this past weekend at Carrollton, Hebron didn't have their whole show on the field but still won the competition with a 6+ point spread over the next band even though they had their whole show. And Hebron was able to do this because of how clean and powerful what they had on the field was.

I guess you aren't used to having a football team that is really bad and so the stands are full of only band parents and then are empty after halftime.

You have to be able to hear chords, tones, and individual sounds... if the show requires so...

Hahahahaha, thinking of any show in particular where you don't need to hear that stuff?

Definitely not, but you and I both know that there are some shows where we don't hear any of that stuff!

I wish I could make it down to Houston this weekend. It looks like a stacked competition, and it would probably be the only chance to check out my old high school live this year, but I am performing Exhibition in the Midlothian competition that night. I will try and say hi at the Arlington regional though. I will be working staff, but I hope to check out a lot of the competition.

I have to agree with performing in competitions over football games. It is so much rewarding performing in front of a crowd who actually came to see marching band. Earlier this season the UTA Marching Band did half time for a Cowboys preseason game. The attendance was roughly 72,000 people, and I have to admit that the applause we got was extremely disappointing. The applause we got last year at our "big hit of the show" at any competition was louder than 72000 at Cowboys Stadium. And we were no where close to being considering a top tier band.

I agree with what you said with directors rushing to put the closer on the field. I remember last year at the Arlington Regional we had the entire show on the field, but the closer was dirt. After getting a poor placement, it really put a dent in the very positive morale we had going for the season. It didn't quiet ruin the season, but it got us off to a bad start.

Can anyone confirm if Spring is going or not? Someone in the Houston Regional thread said they are not. If there not, can anyone see a blood bath (figuratively speaking) for the 10th spo?.

By the way, I lol'd at "If they don't get first they will get second, and if they don't get second they will get first"

Am I only one who heard some form of beverage being sloshed around and repeatedly slammed on a table throughout the duration of this recording?

Brandon, I can assure you that a beverage was not consumed during the recording of the show. I kept accidentally knocking into my lapdesk. The lapdesk is resting comfortably at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
