Is there still a way for me to watch it? Quote
ftwdrummer Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 So...now that day 1 is over: thoughts? Anyone want to take a shot at ranking the performances? Quote
Danpod Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Back from The Alamodome. Thanks to all of the people that patted us on the back today. We love the attention!! Quote

I didn't see all of the bands, but I really loved Richland and SFA. Richland was cleaner than they have been in a while (minus one fall) great though. SFA was elegant as always. I think finalists from today will be Richland, SFA, Churchill. Honestly, during tomorrow's middle block I count 6 locks, 8 potential finalists total. I would kill to be able to watch that block, boo for prior engagements. This year is one of the strongest super regionals in a while. Quote
acsc1312 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) By the way, while I'm here, I'll post my predictions L.D. Bell Marcus James Bowie SFA Cedar Park The Woodlands Hebron Richland Coppell Clear Brook Brazoswood Haltom Winston Churchill Westlake Music: Tie Bell/Marcus Visual: Bell GE: Bell These are mostly in the order I predict today. Bell with edge out Marcus here, GN is another story. 3 weeks is a long time to clean. As for 3-5 anything could happen. Bowie is really strong at this regional usually, wouldn't be surprised to see them 3rd with the vis package they have. The Woodlands hasn't sold me yet, but they haven't performed in this circuit for a couple weeks. 7-9 could switch a little as well. 10-14 is truly hard to predict, these can switch any way possible. Would like to see Colleyville in finals again, but not so sure. Edited October 24, 2009 by acsc1312 Quote
Danpod Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 - Jackson Academy rocked the house, even though most everyone had left by then. Those kids are just awesome. - The NEISD schools represented well tonight. Johnson will be fantastic when the band gets a little more experienced. Reagan made great improvements from early season. Churchill performed well tonight. - Lots of classical music on the field, all of which was performed nicely. - Richland's show had a lot of dissonance in it. The drill design was the most difficult of the night. - Stephen F. Austin had some phasing issues musically but when they played as a whole, they sounded very impressive. Danpod's Alamodome Food Bill for Friday: $10.00 - $5.75 for Deluxe Nachos - $4.25 for Jumbo Hot Dog Quote

Go to "mfa.thefannetwork.org" and purchase the live webcast for San Antonio. If you missed the Friday Prelim performances, you will have to wait till Tuesday/Wednesday, but you will have complete access to Saturday all day as well as Finals!!! Hope all goes well Quote

I almost Flipped! They had started a full run of their show and I could hear the Tubas(they only have a mere 5) clarinets Eb and Base Tenor sax omg,(no flutes though), trumpets, ok all brass, and drumline. It was all very crear and crisp. Tone gorgeous, and overall effect out the roof. I wouldn't be surprised if the judges went deaf. Bring ear plugs if you are staying for finals. PS my twin sister is a clarinet player in the wind ensamble of Cedar Park. Hope they do well GOOD LUCK! And I hope leander places in finals we had a ginarmous sound too. But not as big as theirs. I think Cedar park will win the GE effect award Quote

I think Cedar park will win the GE effect award You're only considering the musical effect. Even though the sound and tone of the music quality is crisp, full & loud, that still does not account for the visual effect that the band & guard exhibits to the audience/judges! If they don't execute perfectly their visual performance, you can through "outstanding GE" out the window. With that said...LD Bell is the favored to win GE. Quote

Steeldrum Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Are finals order determined solely by the draw order or do last year's champs get the final spot? Quote
Clarinot Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Check page 2 of this thread for an updated finals draw order list: http://www.txbands.com/forums/index.php?s=...ost&p=74072. There are only 4 bands left that haven't drawn a slot, including LD Bell and Spring. Quote
sax_man 2007 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Wow, The Woodlands is plagued again with the possibility of going first in finals Hopefully that won't happen for Grand Nationals. Quote
PunkAsAMonk Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Bell and Marcus back to back in finals....potentially. I love how that always seems to happen. Quote
Clarinot Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 If you haven't seen it, the finals draw is complete. Visit http://www.txbands.com/forums/index.php?s=...ost&p=74072 and make your assumptions Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I was only able to watch Westfield, Spring, and Bell... but ohh jeez I love their shows! I'm usually not a fan of Westfield or Springs shows, but I think their shows are ballin this year! Quote

We are going to have a bloodbath between the top "Houston" bands (TWHS & SFA) as well as the top DFW bands (Marcus & Bell) in Finals tonight.....so exciting Quote
Nancy08 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Leander has an interesting draw in finals again this year. Not in the first couple like usual, but right in between Marcus and Bell. Quote
