titancoaster Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) Hmm, four to state again. My bets are (in random order) Hendrickson, Dripping Springs, Hays and Steele. Vandergrift or Lake Travis may make a statement and work their way into a state spot, but only time will tell. Edited October 21, 2009 by titancoaster Quote
Rocktapus512 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) This contest is pretty hard to call. Hendrickson and Dripping Springs are locks for state (granted nothing happens e.g. disqualification). The other two spots are pretty difficult to say. There are plenty of bands that have the ability to go to state. Which ones want it more? Im thinking the last two spots are going to go up to 2 of these 5: McCallum, Hays, Lake Travis, Steele, or Vandergrift. This is going to be one interesting day. bring on the sound. whitewing09 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I think Canyon and Alamo Heights has a chance to make a state appearance. Whats the scoop on Vandergrift's first year? I haven't heard anything. Quote
Mad.Hatter Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 I like Dripping Springs and Hendrickson to make it thru to State. The other two spots will be interesting; I like Lake Travis' show, if they're clean then I think they'll be there. I'll go with Steele for the fourth spot. Great to see Crockett at Area; they were IT around here back in the late 70s/early 80s. Quote

wrestlergrl Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Does any body know what Vandegrift HS band show is about? Quote

This would be a stunning accomplishment! I am also curious to the grounds this assumption is based off of. Edited October 21, 2009 by longhornsax Quote
MorbidToaster Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Heard great things about Vandergrift and Steele. Havn't seen Dripping Springs yet but i'm looking forward to seeing them Friday at the Hendrickson v. Dripping Springs football game. Lake Travis has a good show from what I saw from the back. Hendrickson has come a long way from Westlake Marching Festival. Be interesting to see who makes finals. Good luck to all bands. Hope we pull another all Area D make finals at state. Quote
Clarinot Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Predictions are up! http://www.txbands.com/predict Quote
CPFrntEns Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Vandegrift's show is titled "Remebered" and is a tribute to the namesake of the school, Matthew Vandegrift, who was the first graduate of LISD to die in Iraq. Their show features some Aaron Copland, I believe. While they have no colorguard or battery on the field, they are doing very well. We saw them at region, and I was very impressed. I'm not suprised though, they do have Spicer... Quote
sweetmac_05 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Congratulations to the Hendrickson, Dripping Springs, LBJ, and Hays High Schools! Let's do our best to represent Area D well at S-T-A-T-E!!! Congratulations to everyone who made it to Area, and to finals, as well! Quote
Hannah Bandnerd Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 That was an amazing contest. I really enjoyed seeing the bands that performed ,i still wished I could have seen Vandegrift's show, because it sounds very interesting. Congratulations to all that went to Area, and all that are going to state! Quote
drippin_tuba2010 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Vandegrift will be performing in exhibition at state, correct? It was very loud in the stands, difficult to hear. Quote
titancoaster Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 no, high schools dont perform un exhibition (well except last year, but that was a whole different story), they were probably announced as alternate to state Quote
Donezo Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I'm really excited to see Hays back at state for the first time in ten years. They were a serious 4A powerhouse through most of the 90's. Word through the grapevine is that they were first in prelims. Any confirmation on this? Quote
Rocktapus512 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 yes they were first in prelims. dripping springs was 2nd and hendrickson 3rd in prelims. Quote
MajorTexan Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 no, LBJ was 2nd in prelims, dripping was 3rd, hendrickson 4th, vandegrift 5th, and Steele 6th... Quote
merrytwotwo Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Vandegrift got 1st alternate spot. Can't say I'm disappointed. We are a 1st year band, and making it this far was just....amazing, to say the least. We still have Duncanville to go to, but then our season's done. Next year's BOA. And Spicer's not disappointed. We did the best that we could. It just wasn't good enough. But with 56 students, we beat 15 other bands 4-5 times our size... Quote

We had heard a few things from our Fine Arts director, as he judged you at one of your previous competitions, and he spoke very highly of you. When we were at the gate, waiting to march on after you, I was very impressed. You guys sounded awesome I can see you being a very tough band to beat, in upcoming years. Best of luck to you. Congratulations to all competing bands. It was a tough area and everyone deserves to go home with their heads held high. Quote

Sitting there watching all the other bands, I was thinking "We aren't that good...why are we even here?" But, I suppose that's what happens when your the one on the field, which only 55 other people Quote

Right after a performance, I feel great and proud... But, then I hear other bands and, unless they are obviously not really good, then I feel like we just got totally womped on. But I guess it's harder to tell from a field level. I was surprised by the results at area. I was hoping you guys would make it. You were there because you earned it and you have a pretty dang good band in the making. Quote
