gbtx1968 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) Good luck to everybody that advanced to UIL Area. Here is a thread were everyone can post the schedules and results from their region. (Would be nice if someone that plans to attend each Area could post schedule and then edit with results if they have time) I will be at Areas F 4A on Saturday and will post the schedule then edit with results once I get home. jamestrumpet Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) In update to the UIL Area Final Results... In a late breaking development, Del Valle's advancement to state has been, at least temporarily, rescinded! The issue came down to a misinterpretation of the UIL rules regarding judges' preference. brightlight213 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Aledo didn't advance at all? That's a shocker. Quote
JagDad09 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Not if you were at the contest. Newman Smith and Mansfield Legacy, two former 5A bands, pushed them out, along with new school Frisco Wakefield (finally) Southwest. Aledo was 6th, I believe. Quote

Just to clarify, Mansfield Legacy has not competed as a 5A band before. The school opened in 2007 with a JV band program, and has only competed as a 4A Band in 2008 and 2009. This is only their third year in existence, and Legacy's first year to be eligible for the UIL state marching competition. Edited October 25, 2009 by drummerdad Quote
JagDad09 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Didn't mean to suggest they did - but Legacy was a 5A school the last year the Area B contest was held - in other words, three of the four bands that pushed Aledo out were not in this contest last year. Quote

Actually, as far as I know, all four of the bands that advanced weren't at the Area B contest two years ago. Quote

To clarify, Legacy HS has never been a 5A school. The school opened as a 4A in 2007 with a JV Band that did not go to Area, but instead competed only at Region and received a first division. Quote

J. Pearce 5 4 6 5 3 Midlothian 6 6 5 7 6 Lindale 7 7 7 6 5 Great contest. The scores reflect how clear cut the top three were. All three gave very impressive performances. I had seen Poteet and Forney before and both made significant improvements in the past few weeks, especially musically. Forney has finally figured out how to control that massive sound. Very exciting and cleverly constructed show. I worry about how it is going to transfer to the Dome. If they aren't careful in there, the music could get very sloppy. However, if they perform like they did last night I fully expect to see them in finals. Poteet seems to be on a similar trajectory to 2007 in performance quality. They should peak at the right time, but I don't know if it will be enough to win again. The musical book is a little out of their comfort zone, but it is very cool. Waxahachie is clean and plays well. The music is a mash up of Poteet 97 and 99 which I quite enjoyed! If they keep up the good work I don't think state finals is out of the question. I was also impressed with Pearce. They were practically a different band from what I saw at Plano East. Quote
