eddy725 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 What are some good songs that are not used as much in marching shows that you think would be good to be put out in the field? I recently listened to the band version of Kabalevsky's Overture to Colas Breugnon and I couldn't help but wonder how it would sound if it was used for a marching show, i think it's a very programmatic that can be used to set a specific mood, and it would be a great compliment for the colorguard. Let me know which songs you can think of! Quote
rpd Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 (edited) "Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricone I'm sure this song has been done somewhere, but I have yet to find it. I think it would make an amazing ballad. Edited October 27, 2009 by rpd Quote
Hayden Barnett Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 "With heart and voice" i cant remember who its by. i would also like to see a GOOD band do the Halo theme Quote
titancoaster Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 With Heart and Voice was done by Hays last year actually, it worked pretty well for them. Quote

And they finished 7th at Grand Nationals, so I guess that makes them good. "With Heart and Voice" is by David Gillingham Quote

I love that song, and I also like "With Heart and Voice", my region band played it one year and it was cool. Quote
eddy725 Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Where there any drum corps that played "The Engulfed Cathedral" for their balad? Just wondering... Quote
G'townPIT Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I'm waiting for a metallica themed show to hit it big. Quote

G'townPIT Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Checked it out on youtube.. and came to the conclusion that "one" doesn't do a metallica show justice. That song is definitely not the liveliest metallica track. And they used pink and purple flags. Quote
rpd Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Possibly check out Harlingen from this year. It might not be the best executed show out there, but it has Enter Sandman, Ecstasy of Gold (Ennio Morricone, but what Metallica starts all there shows with) Fade to Black, One (some of the Double Bass part though) And a couple songs I cant identify anymore. I used to be a Metallica junkie. Quote
TrumpeterFish Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 As controversial as this would be, I'm going to go ahead and say it. The music from Passion of the Christ would make a moving marching show. All of the traditional Middle Eastern instruments would be used, and vocals whenever it seemed right. Open with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZXCC2lRFwk...feature=related Ballad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKzr2JlGOwE...feature=related Third Movement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-EV_Vspcis...feature=related Closer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPJu1fB38Hc...feature=related And is it just me, or would a Star Wars themed marching show totally be amazing? I don't think that show would be that controversial, so long as they are not actually acting out the scenes on the field, well I guess they would have to. But I do agree that using this music would be phenomal. Some bands have used some of it in their shows (Brazoswood 2007, some others) mostly the theme mix one with ressurection, crucifixion, mary goes to Jesus mixed together. I think a good soundtrack to use for a show would be The DaVinci Code. Especially Chevaliers de Sangreal. Bell gave us a sample of what this soundtrack has to offer (Malleus Maleficarum ballad 2008). If a good band performed Chevailers well, I think I could die happy. Quote

Only reason I thought the show would spark some form of controversy would be because of the movement's origination (in DCI not a big deal, for high school maybe). Brazoswood? Really? Hah! I had no idea! I must investigate this! I have not watched the DaVinci Code but the music sounds worth looking into. Speaking of Bell, I saw them on the UIL 2008 State finals DVD when my band went to Conroe. The music was performed excellently. -TF Quote
longhorn2190 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Don't know what music would be used, but here's an idea for a show: Dante's Divine Comedy Part 1: Inferno Part 2: Purgatory Part 3: Paradise Might be a little controversial though like the Passion idea Quote
