It's pretty nice, that a band out there doesn't make half the band alternates. My dad remembers the good old days in Texas when there was a grand total of 600 people in the city of Allen. Then again, that was back in the day before Plano and Richardson maxed out size-wise. Mid-70s Texas ftw! Quote

The city of Allen is an exploding suburban area that somehow maintains the "small town" mentality. From what I've been told, the band should be 750 in the next couple of years. Quote

The school poulation is so big because they wanted and now have a state champion football team, so everybody in the distict goes to one HS. I thought it was funny that one of the comments was that they could be heard over a mile away, though that's believable. My band sat in the front rows of the stands at UIL Region and we got to see them perform. Best first note ever. If Plano only had one high school......that's combining eight high schools together xD And I thought Jasper was bad... Quote

takigan Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I'm waiting for the day when a district in Texas decides to consolidate their High Schools into 1 super school like Plymouth Canton Educational Park in Canton Michigan did. Nearly 6000 students, a 400-something member marching band that was sized down to like 300 for the competition band (I don't think they're that big anymore though). Quote

That idea gets even scarier when you think of individual districts trying it. Can you imagine what would happen if Leander ISD consolidated into one superband? Leander + Cedar Park + Spicer's new school + ...geez, that band would be good. Same thing for Lewisville ISD. Marcus + Hebron + The Colony + ....GEEZ, that band would be good. All I know is, Spicer wasn't at Cedar Park this year. One of the things that happens when you're about as far from the high school marching band world (outside of forums) as you can be in the state of Texas (Rice University): you don't know things. Spicer is the new director at Vandegrift H.S in LISD. Also don't forget Vista Ridge is in the district too and they made state finals as a 4a and made it to state their first year in 5A. Quote
