Trumpet Master Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I was wondering if anybody's band directors have ever changed there drill a week and a 1/2 before any major competition. Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Cedar Park did that today.... Am I allowed to tell people that? Quote
GuitarJoe Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 We constantly got new drill (and music) my junior year, mostly because it was a nationals year. We even got new drill the day of nationals while practicing at Carmel. The show was pretty much never marched the same way more than once. And last year we got new closer drill less than a week before the state competition... Quote
xMonicax Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Uhhg, our band directors are notorious for doing that. We had three different endings of our show last year too x_x, and they changed it alllll the time. Like last year, we were on the busses at like 5 in the morning about to go to... Arlington, I think, and our drum major gets on the bus and is like "Alright, I'm passing out new music because they changed a part. Hah, when does that ever happen, right?" and we were supposed to look over it while driving up there and then preform that version of it at the competition. Luckily the trombones didn't get new parts, just like... a ton of other instruments did, so I didn't have to learn anything new. They change music/drill around a lot at Reagan since its our own staff that writes it all. I dunno if other bands do that or not, I just know that some bands don't write their own shows so -shrug- yeah Quote
arundo Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Changes are frequent in Music, But it's only for the better. Their havent been many changes in drill recently...At 1st their were, then theyve just adjusted certain spots of our show. Quote
speedracerrox00 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 yeah today one of my sets was changed, and then they told me to make up the rest (about 8 sets)... but it had to fit and make sense.... Quote
Cru4you Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 we changed so much drill this year,,,its rediculous...im surprised i kept it all straight...i watched a video from the begining of the year...and was like...oh yah i liked that but its gone now....dang Quote
mnkyman Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Westfield 03 gran nats year.. we changed the standstill of the small block in the front to a moving thingy before finals when we were practicing at some junior college Quote
stbobla Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 marian catholic '01, they were gonna do the show they did this year Quote
mitchellbc Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Are you kidding me? The Woodlands was changing their drill the day before Grand Nationals in 2004. We were practicing at either Ben Davis or Carmel.... don't really remember which one, and they started changing stuff up. Quote
cookie_monster Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I think minor changes are normal, especially if there are errors in the drill books to begin with but I've never seen major drill changes before a contest. I know we've had major changes before for random reasons but I don't think we've ever done that before a contest. Quote
Danpod Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 L.D. Bell changes their all the time. They are absolute masters at it. Even in late season, they'll take a risk and change what is necessary in order to make the show work. Then again, it's hardly a risk for those guys. They're good at it. Quote
EODrillDesigner98 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 While I was with dream I remember being told by brass plays that almost every other camp there was new drill written by our visual designer and etc. Quote
