The scores from prelims and finals were way different, but I get what you're saying. I'm not a judge, but the eyeball test and ear test said, not 5th..But hey it is what it is Quote
whitewing09 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 It's funny how different scores are after switching the judges. Quote
NewMexicoBandsman Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 If I remember right, Marcus got 3rd at BOA SA in 2005 but received two of the three captions, and then did the same thing in 2006. Quote
Inso Box Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 2002 BOA San Antonio, James Bowie High School was 11th I believe in prelims, was rated fairly high in some categories I think music and was bombed by a judge for having a small color guard. Quote

drummerjoe Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 You wanna know something truly crazy? Westlake made State Finals. Quote

But yes, in that sense it was slightly surprising, but I feel like Westlake has always been one of those bands that peaks at just the right time. Quote
TxRaider13 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 I think it's a little crazy that Reagan didn't make finals.. I really enjoyed their show, and it helps sway my vote when I was sitting next to band parents from Reagan and they were being super nice to us. Quote
whitewing09 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Didn't the same thing happen in 08? They barely made state, but made finals. Just shows how strong Area D is. Quote
morebueno Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Placement in area means nothing at state. Area C this year was Rowlett, Berkner, Duncanville, Coppell. Rowlett didnt make finals and Coppell and Duncanville did better than Berkner at state. Its different judges, different time, different stage. drummerjoe said: Never said it was a bad thing. Not to mention the rain kind of screwed everything up in Dallas/Ft Worth that day. The same thing happened in area B where Hebron beat LD Bell in area. Quote
bj05johnson Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Grand National Finals 2001 Finals placements 1-5 were all within a single point from each other. Also, Lawrence Central won finals without taking a caption. Edited November 5, 2010 by bj05johnson Quote
J-Mike16 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Reviving this dead topic back alive almost 11 years later. I just wanted to share my pick for a crazy result at a contest. McNeese Showdown at Sundown Marching Contest 2016 Grenada - wins with a score of 92.8 winning almost every single caption of the contest except for: Best music in class, Best overall music, and best drum majors. Also gets sweepstakes (all 1's in the categories). Lumberton - 2nd place with a score of 91.8 winning the following captions: Best music in class and Best overall music. Lumberton was one of the few bands that DID NOT get sweepstakes, they got a 2nd division in drum major. 3rd through 5th were all close to eachother and were 4 points behind Lumberton. I will comment on Kountze HS, they got 5th winning a couple class captions plus sweepstakes. Was super cool seeing them so excited about being in the top 5, beating bands that were 3x their size. They only had about 60 members in the band and were able to beat bands that had 140 - 170 members. I wish I had my hands to the full results just so I can see how high Lumberton's music scores were. LeanderMomma Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 I love it when people revive old topics. ? This was a good one too. I’m reading all the old posts in it from 2010 and it’s really fascinating how much some things have changed in the past decade and how much other things have stayed the same! J-Mike16 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 I'm surprised someone hasn't post any crazy results from the last 5 years, other than me. Like, for example, Vista Ridge placing 24th at State 2016, to then winning State 2018. Quote
J-Mike16 Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Here is the video of Lumberton at McNeese in 2016 You can hear the judges talking in the background and at several moments throughout the show, they say some really good things. gregorydf01 1 Quote
