ace69044 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I think people are more concerned with UIL Area since that is the first competitive elimination contest. Just my $0.02 Quote

Just my $0.02 UIL Region is a very important step of the process. For some bands making a Division I is a major accomplishment very worthy of significant praise, and for those with an eye towards UIL State, the number of bands that advance from Region to Area (and attend...) is the determining factor for how many advance to State from that Area. It is always a heated wait to see how many bands advance to Area to see whether there will be 3, 4, 5 or even just 2(!) bands that get to advance from each of the Areas. To those bands on the bubble, that is a HUGE deal. In 2008, only 4 5A bands received a Division I at Region 20 and that meant that only 18 bands advanced to Area C. This meant that only 3 bands advanced instead of 4 if only two more bands out of all of the Regions in Area C had made a Division I. Rowlett went from 1st in Prelims to being 4th in Finals and they ended up not being able to go to State. Quote

jmj Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Region 3 ratings from tonight are now up on UILForms: 5A Berkner - 1 Garland - 1 Mesquite Horn - 1 Lake Highlands -1 Lakeview Centennial - 1 Mesquite - 1 Naaman Forest - 1 North Garland - 1 North Mesquite - 1 Richardson - 1 Rowlett -1 Sachse - 1 South Garland - 2 3A Canton - 1 Commerce - 1 Crandall - 1 Kaufman - 1 Kemp - 1 Mabank - 1 North Forney - 1 Quinlan-Ford - 2 Rains - 2 Wills Point - 1 Quote
Xenon Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 So far that is 12 5A bands for Area C with a max of 13 possible from Region 20 and a max of 3 possible from Region 21. We should be able to get all 3 from Region 21, so that makes 15. That means that Region 20 will need to advance a minimum of 5 bands in order for Area C to advance 4 bands to State. Coppell and Duncanville will definitely get 1's, so we just need 3 more. DeSoto has always made 1's and so has Midlothian in 4A. If we count those 2, we only need 1 more band out of the other 9 5A bands attending. 4 of those, I can sadly almost guarantee will not receive 1's, so that leaves 5 bands. I would be extremely surprised if 3 of those remaining 5 don't make 1's. This should turn out much better than 2008 Area C. Quote

Rocktapus512 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Wow region 18 is stacked in 5a this year. At this point I can't see Bowie, Akins, Anderson, Westlake, or Pflugerville missing state. Not to mention all the other power houses in Area D. I think we are going to see another Area D dominated state this year. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Area D is going to be one of the most competitive contests of the season...after all the showings at BOA, Cap City, Westlake..etc there is going to be fierce competition. You would have: Bowie Akins Anderson Westlake Pflugerville McNeil Round Rock Churchill Reagan Leander This could be an interesting year... Quote

king_leonides Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Region 23 schedules can be found here: http://www.uilforms.com/regions/23/SCHEDUL...Sched-Reg23.pdf I would estimate 6 to 8 bands will earn a spot in the Area round. Of course, not every band from region 23 who earns 1 goes on to Area, which in turn decreases the number of bands from Area E that advance. Don't ask for my opinion on that. I will say something I will regret. Quote

Don't ask for my opinion on that. I will say something I will regret. I agree completely with that. I think the rule should be changed to count anybody that made a I at Region instead of just those that chose to advance to Area. I am also worried about the possibility that one or more of the Region 21 bands may choose to not advance, but hope that the Region 20 bands will make it so that we don't have to worry about it. Good luck everybody! I'll be posting results from Region 20 throughout the day. Quote

aaron067 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Props to Irving and MacArthur! I don't recall Irving having made a 1 in my memory, and MacArthur has been a bit shaky lately, too. It's unfortunate DeSoto lost their streak. I think they ranked higher than South Grand Prairie earlier in the season, too. Hopefully that band has improved enough to earn their usual ones. Add Duncanville, Coppell, and Midlothian, and Region 20 is sending at least 5. Hopefully Area C will end up with the 20 performing groups they need to advance all four bands that deserve a slot at the SMC. Quote

In fact, this is the first time that Irving HS has ever advanced to Area. The last time they made a I was back when only the top 2 bands in the Region advanced. DeSoto looked like the could have done well enough if they hadn't have just this week been hit with a very very large number of NP/NP problems. It was a well enough designed show, but it is impossible to deal with having a quarter of your band missing. I'm excited that it looks like we aren't going to have any problems with Area C reaching 20 bands. Quote
