Yeah, does the number of bands that advance to state determined by the number of bands that ATTEND or by the number that ADVANCE? If its attend...every band in Region 5 will have to get a 1 for Area B to send 5.

I'll be at Area B next week ^_^ I'll probably get there on the early side after seeing what Region UIL's parking was like...

And on a random/fun side note: At Region last night there were a few people in front of me wearing the Tarpon Springs High School band's 2009 show shirt. Really cool shirt :P

Actually Area B will only be sending 4 bands to state. Currently only 13 bands are going to area and not 14. Plano has decided not to go to Area contest this year. They are doing things differently this year. And there are only 11 bands that can advance in Region 5. Its not 12. Some schools that were 5A have gone down to 4A. So if every band in Region 5 get 1st divisions, there will be a total of 24. So Area B will miss it by one.

Area B 1st Divisions:

13 Bands Going to Area....

Colleyville Heritage

Grapevine

Southlake Carroll

Lewisville

Flower Mound

Hebron

Marcus

Allen

Plano - Not attending area this year

Plano East

McKinney Boyd

Ft. Worth Paschal

North Crowley

Weatherford

Region 5 5A Bands..... 11 bands

Arlington

Haltom

Bowie

LD Bell

Lamar

Legacy

Mansfield

Martin

Richland

Sam Houston

Trinity

OK wait a minute....

I was wrong!! I looked on uilforms and saw that Timberview was listed as 4A and not 5A. After doing some research, Timberview is 5A and so that makes 12 from Region 5. So, if all bands get a 1 then there will be exactly 25 bands.

Actually, you may have been right........

There was a rule change recently that allows a band to compete in a different classification from it's football team. A school that would normally be 4A can choose to compete in 5A, but the band no longer has to abide by that; they can stay in 4A.

It is very possible that Mansfield Timberview is one these bands.

This is indeed very interesting about Timberview. The Region 5 draw order from their website lists them as 5A, but UILForms does show them 4A... Hmmm.... Here's the link to the draw order document.

Is there anyone on here from Timberview that knows the real answer?

Also, the UIL website lists their enrollment as 2304. The 5A cutoff is 2065. They are well above it.

Well after looking at their website it has area marching contest on there so I'm going to assume they are going assuming they get a 1 which they should without any issues.

So then what's stopping a band from trying to go to state every single year?

Does anyone know when we will have a schedule for the Area D Marching Contest?

McNeil performs at 2:30ish. Westwood is the 4th band to perform, RR 9th, and Stony near the end of the day.

Could you post a link to that schedule? And do you know when finals would start. I am just confused as to how they have a schedule if there is one more region to have their contest.

The bands done with their region and going to Area draw for their performance time, so when these guys on Tuesday finish up, they draw for whatever is remaining.

That means they really must be 5A and UILForms just has it wrong.

So yeah, best of luck to every 5A band in Region 5 xD I originally wrote something else but I went back and reread only to discover that I misread what someone had said...

As for Plano not going to Area: I've heard that the head band director wanted to take a break from it...but I also realized recently that they have Homecoming on the same day as Area, so that could be a key factor as well. Didn't SFA opt out of Area last state year for the same reason?

Do people know something about Cedar Hill, that I don't? People are placing them to make state and I haven't seen them so I'm just wanting some 411

Cedar Hill was the best that I had ever seen them. They sounded better and the looked much better than ever before. But. That doesn't mean State level in an Area that has the top 4 spots completely stacked. I do expect them to be fighting for a spot in Area Finals.

Thats what I was thinking, b/c my memory of Cedar Hill was a band improving, but not state ready. Also the top 3 spots are locks, and we all know who those are, but that 4th could go (IMO) to 3 different bands, but the early top 4 in no order are: Berkner, Duncanville, Coppell, Rowlett. With Sachse on the outside looking in and North Mesquite as the dark horse trying to make state in forever. (No Pun intended).

I have 2 nuggets of info, y'all.

1) Region 16 South Zone actually had their contest tonight. This completes all regions for Area A. Abilene and Abilene Cooper both got 1st divisions, which makes 26 bands in that area with a 1. So, provided they all show up, we should have 5 bands advance from Area A.

2) The Area G 5A schedule is now posted. 38 bands in prelims. Last band in finals doesn't march until 11:15 PM. It's gonna be a long evening for them. Here's the link:
