whitewing09 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) So their show is a different style. What are your thoughts? I personally don't like the war section in their show, idk just not a fan of the music. I like their arrangement of America the Beautiful and their ballad. I LOVE their closing statement and the Adagio for string element at the beginning that is randomly touched as transition in the show. I can't wait to see the full show! I was actually kind of sad when I saw that they diverged from the usual musical selection they perform and I thought that I wouldn't like their show because I'm not usually a fan of Patriotic shows, but I do like their show. seekin4therapy Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 *their I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say "they diverged from the usual musical selection they perform", but I personally am a big fan of the 2nd movement of their show (the war part). To me, that part feels more like the past Bell than the rest of the show does. The closer is beautiful, and I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us later on in the season. On a side note, I personally wouldn't consider it a "Patriotic" show, because it's more about remembering and honoring troops and fallen heros than paying homage to our nation. Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 Aww crud, I hate when I make those mistakes. I thought that this show is completely different from the past 5 shows. I still like it, but it's different. I mean it is about remembrance and honor, but in honoring the soliders, it does use America the beautiful and various arrangments that are often include in Patriotic shows. Quote
Marz Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 It was a very Bell show in my opinion. Not as exciting as some past shows, but still effective. I'm not a big fan of the war/patriotic shows either. Less than exciting guard, though. No joke, the limited, repeating visuals were kind of a let down, but that's why there's a great band out there offsetting it, I suppose. Quote
ylowrs Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 I'm not a huge fan of patriotic shows either. Less than exciting guard. I really don't like the props though. It bothers me that they are using the props to represent soldier graves. I come from a military family and that really bothers me a lot. Quote
dtexas4444 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 I like Bell's show this year. I like the visual difficulty of it. The closure is still musically dirty and too bad that they can't do America the Beautiful for UIL due to time restrictions. It still amazes me to see them do 10+ minute shows, where bands like Avon and Carmel do 8 min shows. Quote
TxRaider13 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 It wasn't that long ago that UIL had 10min shows, seriously BOA and UIL need to have a sit down like God Father style and agree on some similar rules so these problems stop occuring Quote

It was Football coaches complaining about the 2x bands and 2x drill teams and announcements of X-person Of The Week type things taking up longer than the allotted time for Halftime. That's why UIL forced bands down to 8 minutes. Quote

Others would be, perform at the end of games, or just screw announcing band member of the week, b/c nobody cares at the game and they could announce that in practice at the school. I'm sure theirs other solutions, but I want to be the fly on the wall when the God Father sit down happens Quote
titancoaster Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 ^wow I never knew thats why we have 8min shows...The More You Know!! Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 First ^ Lmao to that, idk why I thought it was so funny, but it was Questionnnn So has Bell added a lot to their show?? Quote
Joeyz Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 People talk alot about Bell have very emotional, engeretic shows. Personally, I feel like every bit of their energy comes from their color guard, and not one ounce of it from the band its self. That's just how I feel - and I was wondering if anyone agrees. Or am I just missing something? Quote

Maybe it's because they switched back to their dull navy blue uniforms instead of their bright and lively white and yellow ones that they used last year for their light show Quote
whitewing09 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 This show has my favorite ending! There is plenty of energy then. Quote

The Brass Messiah Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Not my favorite Bell show, but I did like the color gaurd (the green dress not a big fan of the white ones), The war scene was quite axhillerating, and when are you ever gona find a band that will play must from my favorite move Black Hawk Down!?!?! that was SICK! however IMO the Arlington Cemetary style tombstones should not be so spread out, it clusters the feild, but at the same time, It adds to the effect of how many troops we loose in war, so I guess im indifferent. And they where streched across the feild almost the entire show, makes them look big. And their uniforms really looked good this year, I know thats their usual uniforms (minus the pants color) but the all black militiristic uniform contributed to the show quite nicely. Quote

Mellophone77 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I really like this show! Not my favorite but still, a lot better than I was expecting. The slow addition of the tombstones is a real nice add to the show and the show in general has a lot more movement than past shows. Can't wait to see it at GNs to see if they add another portion to the show (even if they don't, still fun to watch)! Quote
longhorn2190 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 didn't they have white hats and big tall fluffy white plumes? Why did they have the skinny black ones that Cedar Park and Coppell use?? Quote

aaron067 Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) I just got back from their rehearsal/community performance tonight, and the new tag ending adds a very poignant cap to what seemed like an incomplete show for most of the season. I felt like the tombstones were a bit pointless before tonight, but the new ending utilizes them in a simple yet very effective way. I'm excited to see the complete and polished product in Finals next Saturday night. To the Bell band, best of luck next week at Grand Nationals! Edited November 7, 2010 by aaron067 Quote
SilverSquare Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 "You might tear up more with the new added ending. I still can't believe they are doing a 12 minute show. Well, part of that is going to be preshow to fit under the 11 min max rule at nationals. They sound a lot better - more dynamics, playing louder, and a lot more emotional." (This came from a post under the Marcus Show) I was at their public performance last night and it was a much different show than the one presented at BOA-SA and UIL State. The music was incredible and the new drill was very effective. Last night the L D Bell Band did indeed HONOR all who will serve (the young men who took their oaths), are serving (the Marines who participated in the program and the TCU ROTC Color Gaurd) and those who have served (including at least 2 WWII era vets and numerous Vietnam era vets). Pennington Field in Bedford had a full house for this performance. Kudo's to the two young men who played Taps at the end...it was very moving. There is one last public performance before the L D Bell Band leaves for Indy: November 9 9PM Pennington Field Bedford, TX Quote
