finch347 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Hey, I'm a tuba for the Woodlands High School and was just curious as to what people not from the Woodlands think of our section. Quote

takigan Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I think it's awesome ya'll march contras (shoulder Tubas). Not a very common thing to see in Texas, but more common in the Midwest (most Texas schools use Sousaphones) I feel sorry for the freshman though. A 14 year old having to carry that huge thing seems kind of unfair.....especially if the freshman's a girl or hasn't hit their growth spurt yet. Quote
jamestrumpet Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Thank one of your newest band directors: Ivan De La Cruz for them, he was one of the main reasons why Bel Air (El Paso) started using Contras back a few years ago. Quote
finch347 Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Hey thanks for all the input. In response to all the questions, they are Yamahas. And as a matter of fact, some quick background, I was a 4 foot 10 inch freshman and the directors were fixated on having me march baritone, however they let me have a shot and I ended up marching contra as a freshman. I am now 5 foot 2 so not much has changed and I am still the smallest in my section, but nonetheless, I am doing what I love doing. Also, I do like Mr Delacruz or DLC as we refer to him in the Woodlands. I think he is a fantastic director and wonderful influence. Quote
