bingogooberman Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Tough break for Pflugerville missing out on finals due to a tie-breaker. All band results this year are just shocking me. Very odd. Quote
Xenon Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 State Advancers are: Bowie, Reagan, Johnson, Anderson, Westlake, Round Rock Alternates: Churchhill, Akins Thanks to Just a Texas Girl for covering this! Quote

Mellophone77 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Was this Johnson's first try at state? (not sure if they competed at Area in '08) Very impressive! As for Churchill, that's a bummer. Hopefully things look up for them the rest of this season. Its also nice to see Reagan doing well again Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 GO JOHNSON!! They're my favorite this year. It's awesome seeing them at the top! Quote

error51210 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I don't want to sound like a jerk but, Akins and Westlake do not deserve the spots in state that they have, and Churchill might not have been an alternate if their visual program didn't drop because of the colorguard. Quote

He had Cove, Seguin, Madison , and Judson in his top 10 and they weren't even close in the other music judges. I must also express my general shock at my HS alma mater (Georgetown) finishing 29th of 34 bands. No, I did not expect them to make finals, but to be that close to the bottom -OUCH! It's not like we were a powerhouse when I went there, but we usually were hanging around the top 10, if not in the top 10 at most events. I am sad for that program. Quote

Akins isn't going to state... Westlake is going because they simply played and/or marched better. That is what UIL is all about. Guard is hardly a factor. Granted, I did like Churchill's show much more than Westlake, apparently the sound quality wasn't that great, which will obviously not help. Quote

Wow It wasn't the best day for Churchill, but when it came down to it, the easier, safer, cleaner shows beat out the really big, difficult, wow, shows. But it comes down to what the judges want to see. One week you lose, the next week you take it all. But good luck to those that did advance! Quote

whitewing09 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 You know what's funny, I think if Cedar Park would have still been in 5A, Roundrock would have still gone to state because they would have taken 7 bands lol Quote

I want to believe it's an honest sytem, but it's stuff like this that seriously makes me question the competency of UIL judges, and/or whether or not political games are being played. I just don't see how one judge can think you sounded 3rd best, and another 8th and 6th. I guess this is simply a testament as to the accuracy (or lack thereof) and cohesiveness (... or lack thereof) of the Area D judges this past saturday. p.s. This isn't a rant about how I think Round Rock should've have won (which I don't believe at all), or that I dislike the scoring system, I would simply like to know by the end of the day how well we ACTUALLY did, and I'm pretty sure every single other band would like to know how well they ACTUALLY marched too, because I know for a fact that none of them know for sure (other than McNeil).
