WAXahachie

That was great when the entire Waxahachie crowd corrected him with the city's standard unison chant "It's Waachsahachie!!"

In years past, it's been the guy who is the UIL Theatre director. It is ironic because he is very monotone and brings pretty much zero drama or excitement to the announcements. It would be nice if they got someone else to do it this year, but I doubt it.

so it's Luis Munoz? haha he would get the hispanic pronunciations right then lol

I see finals shaping up like this :

1) Marcus

2) LD Bell

3) Hebron

4) Duncanville

5) Coppell

6) Bowie

7) The Woodlands

8) Westlake

9) Reagan

10) Spring

I really didn't know past 8, so Reagan and Spring were kinda guesses, there's a lot of good bands out there, but my top 8 seems legit. T

Why is Rowlett excluded from any finals predictions for State? I understand they have a very difficult program this year.

Hey guys after finals check out the Texas State University Marching band...we are exhibition this year. We will be marching our Beatles show, and playing our Blonde show in a stand still! Good Luck to all the bands competing at state!

I'm new to Area/State band competitions. I'm wondering why so many people in their State Finals predictions list Westlake ahead of or in lieu of the bands that finished ahead of them at Area (Johnson, Anderson, sometimes Reagan).

Is State judged differently than Area? Is there something about Westlake's program that will play better at State than it did at Area?

I've seen Westlake's show 3 times and it just doesn't seem as strong to me as the other three bands I listed.

Thanks!

No one should pay any attention to the predictions. No one really knows how well anyone will do.

You guys know Round Rock came in 3rd in Area D prelims, right? And tied with Westlake in finals? Why is nobody predicting us to make finals? ):

Well alot of it has to do with how bands have fared in the past. Round Rock hasn't been to state in at least the last 2 5A competitions so alot of people won't put in a newcoming band in their predictions. Also, you have to consider the added competition from other areas, especially from the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

It's nothing against Round Rock or their show . It's just how people predict their finals.

Think of it like college football rankings. You really have to have a name for yourself if you wanna be high up in the preseason rankings. Nobody expected Michigan State to be in the top 5 last week because they had never been that high up before. And, as much as it pains me to say it, look at UT. They were in the top 5 in the preseason rankings but now they are unranked and at 4-4. Preseason or pre-contest rankings don't aways predict how things will shape out.

Good analogy. And maybe Round Rock will be the "Baylor" that knocks out some of the big-hitters that are usually at the top of the rankings =)

I always love seeing an unexpected underdog come out of nowhere to destroy the big boys.

Unless they beat UT..........

Ha, if Round Rock won State the Alamodome would turn out a little something like this:

I would like to see a band win who has never before...

There are many bands who go consistently to state, who different would you like to see win?

Maybe not win, but I would love to see Coronado make finals.

Haha, I'm not saying Round Rock is going to win state XP I just hope we make finals (: after all, we HAVE beaten Bowie, Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, Anderson, Akins, CT Johnson, and Churchhill this year.

On that note, I've never been to a state competition, so I'm wondering, how are the judges? Is the scoring more like BOA scoring than Area, or about the same, or even MORE traditional than Area?

Region, Area, and State are all UIL, so the same judging criteria.

Eh, we beat half of those bands in Area prelims. And I know a lot of our success is from drumline and guard, but at Westlake, we were only behind Bowie in music and marching by one point each.

boo for that game :(

i just remembered at my school we always talked about rushing the field if we won state. It never happened, but it just got me thinking- has that ever happened for a band who won state? and if it did, did the band ever get punished or reprimanded for it?

It has happened=) There is some good video footage (not on youtube though) of Coppell rushing the field at Floyd Casey in 1999 (4A State). You'd have to dig up the band video for that year, I think. And no, the band wasn't reprimanded... heck even the directors joined the kids on the field. It was super neat to see the entire Coppell band do the Drill-to-the-order-of-attention in one huge mob on the field. Even their former drum major, who was then a Baylor Golden Wave Band member got to help lead the chant. I do remember the announcer at Floyd Casey making a jovial announcement about the sprinklers about to be turned on, though...

Will you please post the website when it becomes available?

Thank you

Richard Floyd posted on Friday that they were not able to secure the ability to do the webcast.
