Zurflu Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 17$ for each session (3A prelims, 3A finals, 5A prelims, 5A finals) or 28$ for a full day (either all of 3A or all of 5A) Quote
Danpod Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 UIL Ticket Prices: Student: $12 Adult (single session): $17 Adult (One Day Pass for Prelims and Finals): $28 Refrain from getting these tickets online at Ticketmaster. The seating is General Admission so unless you want to pay extra for absolutely no reason, get your tickets at the gate when you arrive. Quote

Is the student price for prelims or finals or both or just any one session? and do they mean high school students or do they include college students? Quote

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you mean "entertaining" instead of "good." Marching at 172 can be incredibly entertaining for an audience, especially if executed very well. However, fast marching is not always necessarily "good." Do you happen to know what Marcus' fastest tempo was in their last two gold-medal-winning shows? I'm a huge Marcus fan and I think that fast marching has absolutely nothing to do with the accolades they are collecting... Not sure about '06, but I know their part 5 in '08 was 176. This year their top tempo is 178 which they have in two sections of their part 5. Quote
Connor Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) I have to say, the L.D. Bell performance that I witnessed at BOA was spectacular. The only thing that caused me grief was the fact that such an amazing band could be so incapable of making straight lines. We were seated on the endzone side, and their linear forms had many people not only out of line, but also creating a arch-like form. I also found it depressing that the people that would place the props off the backfield could not make straight lines upon their first entrance, and then proceeded to move around whilst their line was in a hold. But over all, they suprised me with thier show. I know they will represent Area B very well at State tomorrow. Edited November 1, 2010 by Connor Quote

Color me surprised that Westlake is the Area D band along with Bowie to advance to the finals. CT Johnson, Reagan and Round Rock were all good enough to advance to finals today. Of course, I didn't get to see Westlake because I left before played because I've seen them twice this year and I had to drive back to Austin. So maybe played better than when I've seen them previously. Edit: I'll share my thoughts from watching the prelims later once I have time to write them down. Edited November 3, 2010 by bchorn Quote
drummerdad Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Looking at 5a preliminary results, Marcus way out in front, but Hebron had strongest average placement after Marcus, though they were 4th in total score. It will be interesting to see how the new judges view these bands. Silver and bronze are totally up for grabs. Quote
longhornsax Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) And as always, looks like prelims results were everywhere!! Won't complain though, as I think it's a pretty solid finals lineup. And before everyone complains about these results, it looks like no one was really "screwed over" by the system. Looks like Marcus is pretty set to win this thing again, although I think there will be a pretty big mix up of the rest of the placements. Should be exciting as always! On a side note, I will never understand how Westlake manages to draw such amazing slots. 3rd to last in prelims and 3rd to last in finals. Same story in '08 if I remember correctly. Kate Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 There were some interesting point spreads in there. Of course, it's a totally new panel of judges at Finals, so we'll just to wait (anxiously) and see. Quote
Steeldrum Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Prelim results here: http://utdirect.utexas.edu/uilsmbc/lbw2_sc...;s_display_sw=R Wow, Coppell score: 17 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 2 (3rd). Looks like one judge really didn't like them but the others did. Quote

A very interesting spread- odd to see numbers like 3 and 14 and 3 and 17 (in Coppell's case) for the same group. I'm curious to see what would have happened with Olympic (throw out lowest and highest) style judging. Overall, a great group for finals, and I wish I could be in San Antonio watching all of them! Remember though that the first three are music judges and the last two are visual judges. So in Duncanville's case it is a 8 - 14 score for visual. Edited November 3, 2010 by dtexas4444 Quote
Kate Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 @dtexas4444 (my computer doesn't like the reply boxes) You're right, I had completely forgottn about caption scoring. Whoops! Quote
rcb05 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 A bit surprising since Duncanville had far superior marching scores to Coppell at Area. You just never know. Quote

Olympic style judging results would have been: Marcus (1) Coppell (3) Bell (2) Ducanville (5) Bowie (6) Hebron (4) Woodlands (7) Spring (9) Westlake (10) Berkner (8) Doesn't mean anything, just something to do while waiting for finals results. My guess with a totally different judging panel tonight there will be major shakeups between 2 - 10. Gold is probably a lock for Marcus. Quote
Kate Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 @rcb05 Do you think that the visual scores might have been impacted by props, either way? Quote
