So now that all the Area listenings have been completed and results posted, I took the liberty of compiling this list of all the state finalists categorized by classification and included their repertoire. While this isn't a big "5A" year with all of our favorite marching bands in competition, there are some fantastic concert bands that are going to be facing off at the Texas Bandmaster's Convention next month. Take a look a the list and make a guess as to who you think might come out on top.

My Predictions:

4a: Wylie Hs (Great repertoire...depends how it was performed. Maybe Waxahachie or Cedar Park, though.)

3C: McCullough JH (I heard rumors that these guys were AMAZING...and after seeing what they played, I'm not surprised)

2A: Noooooo idea... (A disturbing amount of these bands got 2's and 3's at UIL)

2C: Coppell MS North (It's going to be ONE of the Coppells...)

Who do you think will win 2nd and 3rd place in Class 3C?

I'm really no expert here...concert programs are nowhere near as exposed as marching programs in that you almost never get to hear them unless you are somehow connected to that school. I can't really say for sure McCullough will win because I'm not the person judging them. Many of the 3C bands have placed in the top 7 of the Honor Band process previously, so all of them are very good. Just glancing at past results, Westbrook and Rice would be safe guesses, but then again Fort Settlement and Howard are usually up there, too. I could just arbitrarily pick two schools, but it doesn't really mean anything because I've never heard any of them except a select few.

For 2A there are 3 very strong schools that have the chance to win it based on previous reputations. Queen City (wasn't eligible last time because they were the 2008 2A Honor Band...Queen City was also 2A State Marching champion in '09), Krum (Honor Band runner up during the last go-round) and Howe (Top 5 during the last go-round).

Aurora Awakes (Mackey)

La Forza del Destino (Verdi)

I haven't really heard anyone elses tapes, but based on area results, marching band, and what I know about the bands in Central Texas I would say its probably between Waxahachie, Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, and hopefully us. Like I said, I don't really know much about bands outside of UIL Area D.

Woops! Sorry bout that, I accidentally copied the school right below you guys on the Uil forms (Jack C. Hays HS). It gets a little tedious copying all that and switching between regions....bound to make a mistake. I fixed it on the original post!

Hill Country MS (2C) did not perform their UIL program on their honor band submission.

Their HB program is:

For the New Day Arisen (Barton)

A Longford Legend (Sheldon)

Alligator Alley (Dougherty)
