ProudBandDad Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Thought it might be fun to post about your first game performance experience of the year. What went well and maybe what didn't go so well. Nothing too specific or critical. Looking forward to read about some of the other band's experiences. Our first performance is on Saturday and the heat will be a big issue. Our saving grace is that the game doesn't start until 8:00pm so the sun shouldn't be a factor for too long. The kids have been working hard and as usual have made terrific progress in a few short weeks. Be sure to cheer and applaud loudly for your band! Stay hydrated, -- PBD Quote
Drummantx Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Ours isn't until 2 weeks from Friday. Will post then. lol Quote
Thomas Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 A few Houston area schools have football games today (Thursday), Friday, and Saturday. Friendswood's first football game is tomorrow. Quote
ProudBandDad Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 My younger son's first marching performance at halftime went remarkably well Saturday night. I had fears of tripping, wrong turns, collisions, and total meltdown, but none of those surfaced and he did great! He remarked later that night that he thought he was going to be nervous marching and playing in front of the crowd, but said he was pretty calm and confident. With the Opening and Part 1 under his belt, I'm starting to get comfortable with him out there and my fears of twisted trombone pieces scattered across the field are slowly fading away! Oh and btw, Waxahatchie Band sounded great and I loved the fight song with the tomahawk chop! --PBD Quote
TxRaider13 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) My younger brothers school did well, just the typical freshman gets off step, or a line looks like a wave, and my personal favorite, the marching woodwind amoebas that will eventually be a square.. Still a good show for Forney High.....As for my sisters school Poteet High from Mesquite looks like your typical state year Poteet Pirate Band. Almost as if the director change didn't effect the program..Guess it helps when he still writes the drill for them. Only issues with them for week 1 would be a few off step, and getting the little things in forms lined up... Of course they both have music issues that will get cleaned as the year goes along, but again who doesn't at the start of the season? Both Forney High, and Mesquite Poteet did very well and I look forward to seeing everyone at Area C. Edited August 31, 2011 by TxRaider13 Quote

Sometimes it's hard to tell in these early performances if that is a majestic arc or just a crooked line. I'm sure the Pirate Band and Forney Band will be bringing their best effort this year and will represent north Texas well at state - those are both excellent programs. -- PBD Quote
clarineticorn Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 CTJ had a fantastic performance. The director emailed out the video to the student leaders and I just keep watching it over and over. Skill-wise, we're around the level we were at BOA Houston last year. We had more show on the field at the first game this year than ever before, and we did it without a met! We have a crazy-long line that goes across half the field (front-to-back) that was pretty darn straight...at the first performance!!! All of us leaders are so proud of everyone. We've been working so hard and our show is unbelievable right now. We weren't in full uniform for the first performance, though, so that might have affected things a little. But we will be tomorrow night! Good luck at your performance, Drummantx! I'm sure y'all will do great! Quote

Congrats - it sounds like you did really well! Full uniform so early - you guys are going all out. Looking forward to seeing you at BOA (Conroe and San Antonio) & best of luck at Grand Nats! -- PBD Quote

I think that's the best part of competitions, seeing what everyone else has been working on. My second-favorite part is retreat when I can tell other bands how awesome their shows are This year is gonna be GREAT!! Quote
takigan Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 There's always 1 or 2 bands I'm really rooting for every season. In 2006 it was Westfield. In 2007 it was LD Bell. In 2008 it was Mansfield Legacy. In 2009 it was Cedar Park and Marcus, and last year it was Vandegrift and McNeil.....this year it's Vandegrift again and CTJ. Claudia Taylor Johnson has been rising the ranks in leaps and bounds every year, much like Vandy.....it'll be interesting to see just how far they get on the national stage. Quote

RWood Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Here's the first performance of the year for my daughter's band. She's one of the screaming trumpets. And here's where the show is now. Quote
