MaverickBand15 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Hey I just thought i would start an official thread to talk about BOA San Antonio. Just by glancing at the list and with the knowledge of Bands i know. (I haven't heard of every band on that list) This is kinda how i think it might stack up for those 14 final spots. Final "locks": Cedar Park Bowie LD Bell Marcus Reagan Stephen F Austin Vandegrift Churchill The "Bubble": ( i think any of these schools have a good shot at finals) Anderson H.S., TX Brazoswood H.S., TX Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX Hebron H.S., TX Leander H.S., TX Mansfield H.S., TX McNeil H.S., TX Pflugerville H.S., TX Round Rock H.S., TX Spring H.S., TX Stephen F. Austin H.S., TX The Woodlands College Park H.S., TX The Woodlands H.S., TX Vista Ridge H.S., TX W. Charles Akins H.S., TX Westlake H.S., TX Opinions? Quote

I would be EXTREMELY shocked The Woodlands and CTJ did not make finals. TW has made finals at every BOA event they've attended (exception of GN 1998) since 1996, the year they opened, and has placed top 5 at every regional attended since 2006. CTJ is also going into the season with tremendous momentum and placed well in finals last year. Edited October 2, 2011 by mellopwn1 Quote
Churchill-Fan Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I've seen a portion of CTJ's show and I would count them as a lock. Quote
GBMELLO Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Look out for O'Connor! We placed 20th last year in our first BOA appearance, and we have a much better, cleaner show this year! We're doing "Chrysalis", which is the same show Reagan performed in 2002 when they went to BOA Grand Nationals. We may be able to squeeze into finals, you never know! Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 I think something that will be interesting to watch will be how Round Rock High School Band fares at BOA. Round Rock really excels under the UIL style judging and contests like Capital City and Westlake, but haven't had much luck on the BOA stage because of the style show they play to. In my opinion they are not gonna place well at BOA SA but only time will tell Quote
cul3r0 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 this year Round Rock has a chance of making BOA finals they look and sound great Quote

shmeh Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Churchill and Reagan have gone down a lot over the last few years. I would not agree that they are in the "lock" for finals. Round Rock has devised a very BOA oriented show this year, I would say they are more likely to make finals than Churchill or Reagan. Same with Westlake, I think they're more likely to make finals. I wouldn't even put Pflugerville or McNeil in the running. Quote

Both Churchill and Reagan have gone down but they are both rebuilding their programs after major staff changes in the past few years but doesn't mean they are not going to making finals i mean name a year either of them hasn't made finals at SA? I might be wrong but didn't Reagan place 4th at BOA Houston last year, 6th at San Antonio and make state, all a year after not making finals at Arlington and getting 14th at BOA San Antonio? I wouldn't call that going down at all. Quote

I never said they weren't going to make finals. I said that I don't think they're without a doubt in finals. They're both very good bands, I'm not denying that. And well I don't know, last year Churchill didn't go to state. They usually do. And I'm pretty sure the year before they got last in finals at BOA SA. Quote

And with Reagan I meant more that they've become inconsistent over the last few years, whereas before they were constantly one of the ones on top. Quote

No. No one has heard a thing. They're a very, very well kept secret and I wouldn't at all be surprised if they burst onto the scene at Houston with a lot of "WOW" factor this year. Last year was a pleasant surprise from them and I wouldn't underestimate the chances of it happening again. Quote

I was on the visitor's side, but even from the 'back' they looked great. My son had a better view and had nothing but great things to say about their music and their marching. I'd be shocked if they didn't make finals. That goes for Churchill too, but I am a little biased. Quote

I haven't heard anything about them. Quote
longhornsax Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I would say Reagan and Churchill are currently going in opposite directions. I feel like Churchill has been slipping as of late, while Reagan has rebuilt and reloaded. It's only a matter of time before they're back on top. If anything I would say Reagan is a lock, while Churchill might be on the bubble. Quote

On the bright side, I think they have created a show that will play to their strengths this year. I think if they get it to a good place in terms of cleanliness and musical effect, then they should have no problem squeaking into the bottom few places of SA. Quote

Sebastian C Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Churchill def not a lock. They didn't even make uil state last year. Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) How about that CT Johnson! I remember someone making a comment that they were tired of being right behind Reagan all of last year, but look at the BOA Conroe results! They placed a whole 2.65 points above Reagan. It's really cool to see how much they're approved in the last 3 years. I remember seeing their show in 09 and thinking, "Oh ya, they're going to be up there in a couple of years." If they continue the trend that the strong bands usually follow (10 point improvement), they'll do simply amazing at BOA SA. I'm definitely a huge fan of theirs. Abbie123 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Anybody seen Leander's Show or Vista Ridge's this year? Quote

They have a nice show from a side view at field level At Westlake they placed 9th, so I don't know whether it was a bad show, or if it is a bad year for them. As for Vista Ridge, I haven't seen them. Now those finals "locks" are going to be having a run for their money. Many of those "bubble" bands have a lot to offer, particularly The Woodlands (Bubble? Really?), CTJ, Anderson, Round Rock and Westlake. I'd say that the only true locks are Cedar Park, Bowie, LD Bell and Marcus (and The Woodlands...), the rest of the spots are honestly up for grabs.
