Fata1 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I know when I was at Southwest, we always looked forward to going up against Aledo. I never knew if that rivalry was at all mutual or if it was more of a one sided thing. Quote
drummerjoe Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Cedar Park and Round Rock's rivalry is biggest between the drumlines. I think we used to go to Belton drumline contest every year with them, and the drum caption at any CenTex competition that both bands attend (Westlake, Cap City, Vista Ridge) has usually been given to either CP or RR's lines in recent years. ...Until CP stopped going to Westlake or Cap City. Frisco_Centennial_Pit Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Yeah both of those are friendly rivalries. Within the years since Hendrickson opened, those two bands have really pushed us to where we are today. There is not a single part of my body that wants Dripping or Connally to ever do bad; it just seems like in the course of our history, we might beat one at one competition and then they beat us the next week (or even within prelims and finals at a contest). I congratulate both of them on their ones yesterday and wish them the best of luck at area next week! Are there really heated, hateful rivalries in band? Obviously its not like the Steelers and Ravens rivalry, so what happens? I truthfully have never heard of that before... There's not so friendly rivalries in Frisco, with Centennial and Wakeland. I don't think it would ever get to the point of really really hateful rivalries though. We just get joy from beating them. XD In all honesty though their show is really good this year, and the main reason we aspire to beat them is because they've made State before and Frisco Centennial's only made it once. We actually talked to their pit last year at the game. (Mostly because they had a 6'6 marimba player and we had a 4'9 vibe player and we wanted to put them side by side because she only came up to his elbow...) Quote
takigan Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 This is Cedar, This is Cedar, This is Cedar Park. Ha! I just now saw this. Yeah, I'm totally posting the reference for those who didn't get it: Quote
Chryco4 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Spring and Westfield are in the same school district so obviously we're rivals but not for contests because we're quite a bit ahead of them. This year I'm feeling a rivalry between Spring and the Woodlands because of Grand Nats. LD Bell isn't going so it's like we're competing for at least the number one Texas rank. HHSBandMom225 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 There's a rivalry between Haltom and Richland, although I think it came down a notch or two when the bands traveled with each other and Birdville HS to the Rose Parade last December. They are still rivals, but they also seem to cheer for each other. It's all about representing Birdville ISD...which, I have to say, all three bands do very well. Good luck to all the bands in all competitions, but a special shout out to Haltom, Richland, and Birdville! Keep the Spirit! Quote

I think there's an inherent rivalry between ALL the Frisco ISD schools. lol. I mean, a lot of kids have friends in other programs, so it kind of turns into a nice friendly competition at all those football games. Quote
Donezo Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Are there really heated, hateful rivalries in band? Obviously its not like the Steelers and Ravens rivalry, so what happens? I truthfully have never heard of that before... Having lived through Poteet/Coppell in the 90s, I'm going to say yes. 1997 state finals - the Poteet crowd cheered just about as loudly for Coppell's third place announcement as for Poteet's first place (back when they actually announced the placement order for all of the finalists. What a novel concept!) Tacky but true. Team Coppell returned the favor in 1999. I think the Coppell crowd was also quite peeved that Poteet always won area no matter what went on to happen at state. Several parents complained to contest officials that Area C was always in Mesquite and Poteet had an unfair home advantage. That's the nastiest one I can think of. I also remember Colleville Heritage parents storming into the Poteet parent section in the stands right before 1999 state finals and shoving all of the Poteet seat cushions and blankets to the side. Sportsmanship in marching band has generally improved a lot in the last 10-15 years, so we don't see much of that anymore. I'm also sure Spring/Westfield got pretty catty in the 90s. Quote
Shadow Weaver Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 memorable rivalry stretches... Spring/Westfield in the 90's Churchill/Reagan early 2000's Am I just imagining a Bell/Marcus rivalry? Quote

selmer_90 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Im from Waxahachie and we seem to have a nice rivalry with Forney. We both always finish right next to each other at every competition. Its a nice competitive rivalry that always makes competitions more fun! So I was wondering if any other schools have any friendly rivalries like ours? It's nice to see that Waxahachie and Forney can show respect for eachother and wish eachother luck at the competitions.... I hope Poteet understands that being replaced with the alternate (Forney) does not give way to an ugly rivalry. Forney realizes the opportunity that has been placed before them and is well aware that Poteet is a fabulous band program and will be back stronger and hungrier! Quote
