Cookie_MonsterSR Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I'm a big fan of the 4 Mansfield marching bands (Mansfield,Legacy,Timberview,Summit) and i was wondering what other people thought of them and how they stack up to some of the more well known bands. Considering i'm biased having grown up in Mansfield when it was just farmland and cows. Quote
Trumpetplayer02 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 All four of the bands are having a really great year. Timberview, summit, and Legacy all made finals at HEB, and that contest was pretty stacked If you ask me. Meanwhile, Mansfield, the school I go to, has improved a lot since that tough loss at BOA Arlington. We finished less than a point behind Flower Mound at Birdville, and we won TOC for the 2nd year in a row. Anyways my thoughts on each of the bands are as follows: Summit: I saw their show really early in the season, so I don't remember much about it. From what i have heard though, they have improved a lot and I wish them luck at Area this year. Timberview: Managed to catch this at their homecoming, I thought it was really good. Their biggest problem was that their forms were a little messy at times. If they can clean their forms up just a bit this show has a lot of potential. I'm not sure if they have any contests left, but I wish them good luck nonetheless! Legacy: My my these guys are good! Finishing third at any contest, especially HEB, is no small feat. I also saw their show at their homecoming and I was impressed to say the least. My only complaints are that it is a little random at times and it could flow a little better, but still entertaining and well executed if you ask me. Good luck at BOA SA Legacy. Mansfield: This will probably be a little biased. I personally think this is the best the band has ever been and our show is well designed. BOA was rough, but we have improved greatly and plan on doing very well BOA SA. The only thing that could become a problem for us is potential arrogance and not focusing these last couple of weeks. That's all I have to say about that. Quote
borchnork Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I've seen Timberview and Mansfield... I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Mansfield's show. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool. =] Timberview has ALWAYS been one of my favorite bands. I think they're also doing a great job this year. The last time I saw them was BOA Arlington, so I'm sure that show has come leaps and bounds by now. Quote

Ill be at BOA SA, that being said do you think they'll be able to compete with the many great bands there and make finals? Quote

There are going to be a lot of great bands at SA, so it won't be easy. Quote

They got a 99.5 in GE at TOC. Totally earned it in my opinion Quote

One of my favorites of all time Quote
Cookie_MonsterSR Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Its amazing how far that program has come in the last 4 or 5 years. They aren't considered a top tier program just because of the fact that they have never advanced to UIL State, but they compete in the toughest Area in the entire state and probably one of the toughest in the country and they missed it by .05 points in 2008 when they had Heart of Darkness. This program continues to astound me more than any other. They start the season and you think oh well that's the end of their success and then in 2 weeks they take 1st or 2nd against some very good bands. I can't wait to see their show this year (what is it Dante's Journey or something along those lines?) and i want to know what these mysterious massive props are that iv'e heard make the crowd go crazy. Mansfield traditionally has one of the hardest if not the hardest show in the state visually, so i'm excited to see what kind of crazy stuff their drill writer has come up with this year. Quote

You will NOT be disappointed. A quote from me at the TOC in regards to Their epic props: "OMFG NOT THE SOUSAPHONES TOO!!! OMG TWO AT A TIME!?!?" lol Quote
Xenon Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 My favorite part of the show is the beautiful mellophone ballad. Quote

It's "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri (at least I think so--know for sure its called Jar of Hearts). And while I do love a good mello part, the main highlite of the show for me would have to do be the movement after the ballad--the way Equus and Madea are arranged there is just insane. Quote

Musically, the band was still lacking at UIL. I think Legacy, Bell, Martin and Richland are stronger musically (and have a better tone) this year - based on UIL performances. Yes, I realize at UIL that none of the top schools were performing their entire show. Good luck at San Antonio! Quote
borchnork Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Question: Anybody know where I can see a video of summit this year? Quote
BandGuardMom Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I disagree with dtexas4444. I saw Mansfield at TOC and UIL, they looked and sounded amazing. I love their show. What I like best about Mansfield though is their kids. At TOC, after they had announced the results, the Mansfield kids where telling our kids, "great job you guys", "congratulations". Over and over. I know the band directors must be really proud. I wish them the best of luck at BOA San Antonio. Quote

I think the MISD does a very good job with teaching their kids how to be polite. Just out of curiosity which band are you referring to that they were congratulating? Quote

I have yet to ever see them display any sort of poor sportsmanship. And the directors that I've talked to from there are quite honestly the nicest people I've ever met. Quote

I'm hoping that they make it to finals and at least make the top 10. I have no doubt that they are capable of doing it its just a matter of which bands bring it the most. Quote
Cookie_MonsterSR Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Just out of curiosity, which of the Mansfield schools is looking the best this year in your opinion? I know both Mansfield and Legacy will be at San Antonio and Summit has a shot at making 4a state. Quote
