Some food for thought...

The consequences for having an ineligible participant for Poteet could have been much worse had this not been divulged but instead discovered. There are consequences to breaking the rules (however unintentional), and Poteet received the minimum punishment available to schools who, for one reason or another, march an ineligible player or play an ineligible football player etc.

While not great for the kids who wished to march at State, the self-reporting and the disqualification were absolutely the best course of action for all involved given the circumstances.

Actually from what im told from people at poteet they have been disqualified for all the events he participated in including Regional's which means poteet will not be able to win the sweepstakes award this year. Which if i am correct will be the first time in school history.

The part that troubles me is he wasn't a member of the band and did nothing to help the band besides make sure the sound board doesn't get broke. Thats like taking away a state title or chance to play in the game from a football team or basketball team because there waterboy failed.

In all fairness rules are rules and if UIL wants to punish them for it they can doesn't mean it was the right thing to do or we have to like it.

So to reply back to your comment if UIL "TOOK TIME" to look at all the facts and use better judgement there "could" have been a better outcome. And when i say took time i mean more then 20 hours that it took uil to say no. They made the appeal Monday afternoon and was told no Tuesday morning. Im not saying 100% they should have let poteet go but for the uil to shoot down the appeal the way they did and not look at what happened is stupid IMO.

None the less Gratz to the ones who moved on from C and from everywhere else and good luck at state.
