This is what i see actually playing out though

Locks:

Centennial

Cedar Park

Dripping Springs

Dawson

Friendswood

Waxahachie

On the bubble:

Poteet(the only reason I put them on the bubble is because of their pending advancement. If they advance they are a lock for finals)

Lake Travis

Vandegrift

Frenship

Boswell

Newman Smith

Wakeland

Sherman

Who I think will make up finals:

Centennial

Cedar Park

Dripping Springs

Dawson

Friendswood

Lake Travis

Poteet

Vandegrift

Wakeland

Waxahachie

The top three spots will be a shoot out between Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, and Waxahachie. Wouldn't be surprised to see Friendswood or Lake Travis in a medal position though.

I'm just counting down the days till next Tuesday. It's going to be awesome.

Message to UIL officials (which I feel fairly sure they will never see) - taking 5 freakin' days to decide how to enforce your own rules is abusive the school in jeopardy and offensive to the alternate. Man up, UIL! It's either a rule, or it's a suggestion!

Joe, you haven't seen half of the 4A bands out there. Quit trying to kiss CP's......... all the time.

They're good. But you're getting obnoxious.

First comment to your "on the bubbles":

Newman Smith was only 3 points away from beating Wakeland at Area, and Sherman BROUGHT IT at Area Finals. I'm not sure if they'll be able to clean the drill enough in time for Tuesday to advance to finals, but I can guarantee you they will be putting up a HUGE fight.

Next comment:

I've been following the Friendswood/Dawson competition all season, and I honestly would place Dawson in a medal spot over Friendswood this season....

You're right. Blah. that's what I get for trying to post things at 5 AM. lol.

I'm really pulling for a Dripping Springs repeat. I'll get to see them this weekend at the CMF so I'm extremely excited. =]

And another quick comment:

The top 3... Well I'll even argue top 5 at this contest is going to be close. I'm not sure I would include Waxahachie in your shoot out for top 3 though. I'd be more inclined to put Lake Travis, Centennial or Dawson there (I FINALLY saw Area Finals performance videos for almost all the top ranked bands).

In my opinion, music is way too close to call a winner. Cedar Parks is most entertaining, whereas Dripping Springs is the most well blended and balanced, and I would put Centennial as a close 2nd in blend and balance to DS over CP. I think Waxahachie may fall to 4th or 5th in music behind Dawson, CP, Centennial and DS. There are parts of Waxahachie's show that are just BRILLIANT in music, but there are also some weaker sections. I'm sure those will be cleaned in time for state though!

It's all going to be about the visuals in the end I think. Again, I'd give the most clean show to Dripping Springs overall. CP is the most visually exciting, and I would argue probably the hardest drill of all the bands, but it needs some cleaning (which again, I'm sure will be better by state). Waxahachie, Centennial and Dawson are about on par with each other with a few issues in cover downs, rotating blocks and spacing.

Based on that I'd say your rankings will probably be:

1. Dripping Springs

2. Cedar Park/Lake Travis

3. Centennial/Dawson/Lake Travis

4. Centennial/Dawson

5. Waxahachie/Dawson

Regardless, it's going to be CLOSE.

Any predictions for 2A?

I'm not really great at making predictions, but I feel Clifton (my former band) has opened the door for several bands to place high. They haven't been up to par the last 2 marching seasons and it definitely showed at Area.

I haven't seen much outside of the Dallas area this year, but Waxahachie sounded great at Area. If they keep improving at this rate, I'm expecting very high music ranks. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the top three.

It probably has something to do with just the video, but there were weaker moments that I definitely didnt hear out of DS.

I do really like how Dawson, Waxahachie, Dripping Springs and Centennial have great woodwind features. I think those parts are what will basically decide the music rankings. Brass is all about the same level.

I saw Waxahachie at Area. Their sound was very good and marching was clean, but I did not feel it had a high energy level or excitement to it. I would be shocked if they medaled, but expect them to be in contention

We are hearing that the meeting is today. We have had a little bit of conflicting information regarding what exactly happened. At first, it was a "minor" error. Now, it's turned in to something that could potentially keep them out of the State Contest.

Nevertheless, I have edited my "Notes" post to reflect the pending status of Poteet. We hope to get some official word on what's going on here very soon.

Wow! Well Congrats to the Forney Band!

Although it is sad to see those kids at Poteet punished for an innocent mistake. I have very mixed feelings about the decision.
