2011 Marching Season

All I'll say is we reset the standard for our school from an emotional and performance level standpoint. Very rough start, but all ended up VERY well in the end. Amazing way to end my high school marching career, we dug ourselves out of the hole we've been in for about five years. We made finals in New Mexico for the first time since 2006, and placed 6th for that metter. Finished 5th at Area, one place below advancing to state, but I wouldn't have traded going to San Antonio for anything in that season. Our show grew and grew throughout the season and ended as something absolutely spectacular. West Texas bands are getting better, we might not have been too much of a force to be reckoned with for awhile, but that's soon going to change. 11th place at area in 09 to 5th is a pretty big jump, next time around, you might be seeing Canyon High School in San Antonio knocking down the doors of some big players, and I'll be a very proud alumni watching.

Putnam City Marching Classic: 9/24/11

 

Prelims - 7th place, 60.2 (out of 11)

Finals - 8th Place, 60.7 (out of 11) Really turned on the heat from prelims to finals, AMAZING improvement in one show.

 

High Plains Marching Festival: 10/8/11

 

Prelims: 4th Place (out of 17)

Finals: 3rd Place (out of 8)

 

Percussion - 4th

Color Guard - 3rd

 

Region Marching Contest: 10/15/11 (Insane crowd reaction, first time the show started to sparkle).

 

Division Rating - 1 (Advance to Area A Class AAAA marching contest)

 

ZIA Marching Band Fiesta: 10/22/11

 

Prelims - 6th place - 71.4 (out of 27) (This kinda score usually wouldn't make finals, when they said 10th was a 63.8, we went NUTS).

Class AA Champion, High GE, High Music, and High Visual (One of the two non 4A bands in finals, second consecutive year to win and sweep captions in this class).

Finals - 6th place - 69.45 (out of 10 Amazing performing in that stadium, huge crowd!)

 

Area Marching Contest: 10/29/11

 

Prelims: 6th Place (out of 24) UIL Score: 38 (This prelims performance was "that" show we haven't had for about five years).

Finals: 5th Place (Three way tie, 7th after tie breaker, out of 10) UIL Score: 33

I wouldn't venture to say my school had the best season in school history

 

9/24 - East Central Invitational - 1st place. Notable bands we beat : Taft, Harlingen

10/1 - South San Festival - 1st place, Grand Champions.

10/8 - Westlake Festival - 5th in 5A, 6th overall, highest placement at Westlake in school history! Not to mention marching in the pouring rain as a senior was an experience I'll never forget

10/15 - UIL - Sweepstakes for the 13th (maybe 14th I can't remember) year in a row. Sweepstakes every year in school history!

10/29 - Duncanville Invitational - 15th place

11/4-5 - BOA San Antonio - 27th place

 

I am very satisfied with my senior year's results.

I am overjoyed with the results of this year's season. "451" was an idea different and more complex than any that I can remember in past years. Needless to say, it was the most complicated and most demanding show I could have expected, and although rehearsals were rough, the ending product blew me away. As a sophomore and taking my first trip to State was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Our band worked so hard and I am so proud!

Capital City Marching Festival - 1st place 5A

Westlake Marching Festival - 2nd place 5A (No finals this year)

- Best Percussion - 5A

 

Vista Ridge Marching Festival - 1st in prelims, 5th in finals

- Best Colorguard - 5A

 

UIL Region - 1st division

 

BOA San Antonio - 10th in prelims, 7th in finals

 

This is definitely been Round Rock's best season

Great season for Shelbyville Dragon Band

- 1st division UIL (only 1a band in region 21 to get all 1's)

- 1st Place at Area Marching (total of 6 points)

- 8th Place 1A State Prelims

 

still bitter about state our scores were 4 4 16 music 7 3 marching

 

one of the judges put us 2nd to last in music which put us out of finals by 1 point. we had 3 scores higher than the band that was 2nd in prelims. that judge put the ONLY 2 military bands at the contest 2nd to last and last.....pretty disappointing especially in my last year in h.s. to have a judge do that to ya...but it happens

Birdville ISD Marching Contest- 1st place (cancelled finals) Captions: Music, General Effect, Colorgaurd, and Percussion

BOA San Antonio (first appearance)- 8th prelims, 9th finals

 

Lonestar Drumline Contest- 3rd place

 

 

This final year was almost like a dream. This band has progressed so much from my freshman year, and I hope this program continues to progress.
