longhornsax Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Here's a link to a summary of the schools moving up and down for this years UIL realignment. http://www.utexas.edu/uil/alignments/2012/...f_Hist_Data.pdf Quite a bit of shuffling (as usual) in Central Texas. Hendrickson, Lake Travis and Cedar Ridge will get a chance to compete with the big boys in 5A, while Georgetown and Leander are down to 4A. Interesting that all the Leander ISD schools are now 4A. I'm also not quite sure whether this makes 5A or 4A area D stronger or weaker. Seems like a pretty even trade to me. Quote
Donezo Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Interesting indeed. J. J. Pearce is another big name moving up. I doubt they'll contend with the Duncanville/Coppell/Berkner/Rowlett strong hold at the top of Area C, but they're definitely area finalist caliber and will be a nice boost in an area that sometimes struggles to send four bands to State. El Paso Hanks and Saginaw moving down to 4A will make Area A pretty interesting. Hanks could potentially do quite well at 4A State Marching Contest. Quote
Drummantx Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 4A Area A. That's intense. 1. El Paso Hanks 2. Boswell 3. Saginaw 4. Azle 5. Frenship 6. Del Valle Those 6 are going to be TOUGH to break through next time around. Really tough. Quote

This year they were 3A Non-Varsity with I believe grades 9-10. Also...Cedar Ridge 5A already? Wow, Round Rock is growing fast! And with Leander moving down to 4A that means all 5 Leander ISD schools are 4A now if I'm not mistaken. Mansfield Legacy moving down to 4A again is also notable, since they've been pretty strong even as a 5A program. Quote
TxRaider13 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Don't forget about the Rockwall Schools to 5A Area C.... No they may not be the bully on the block, but both Rockwall High and Heath can help seeing as they have been area finalist.. Only exception was this year with Heath getting a 2 at region, but I believe they could both advance to the area level Quote

Mansfield ISD is building up a 5th HS for the 2012-2013 school year (Mansfield Lake Ridge) and it will be opening as 4A. Most of the Mansfield ISD schools have been skirting that 4A-5A line ever since they started opening new ones in the early 2000's. It seems to me like they are probably trying to get to a point where they can have most of them just barely on the 4A side of the line like Frisco ISD has been doing. Both Thorndale (2A->1A) and Canadian (1A->2A) could cause some shakeup on the State MB Finals level. And Whitesboro (3A->2A) could be interesting. 2A State Finalist Melissa is moving up to 3A. 3A State regular Lindale (military band) will have unfortunately, have a hard time making it to State in 4A. Pilot Point going from 3A to 2A and Prosper going from 3A to 4A is going to shake up a lot of football in the North of Dallas area. The whole North of Austin area has been swapping out a lot of 4As for 5As and vice versa over the past few years. Leander, Hendrickson, and Lake Travis are all just the latest in the constant shakeup down there. And that isn't even mentioning all the new schools that keep opening. And Lake Travis is going to make a very big 5A debut in both band and football. Quote

Will Lake Travis be able to compete in UIL for 5A this coming season? Or will they have to wait a cycle? Also, moving to 4A is a good thing for Leander. If they continue to be as good as this past year, I think they have a solid shot at 4A state finals when they're usually boxed out by stiff competition in 5A. Quote

Yes, they will be able to compete on the Area/State level their first year in 5A even though they just finished making 4A State Finals. Quote
