There is a small but seemingly growing movement of some directors on The Yellow Board petitioning TMEA to let Duncanville advance to the State level listening in addition to Coppell and Spring.

I want to state for the record as an alum of Duncanville speaking only for myself; I am not a supporter of this movement.

The rules are the rules and the judges are the judges. Everybody involved knew the rules beforehand and the judges were selected in full accordance with the rules. The area alignment also is what it is. If anybody wants to change those things, then they should be changed in accordance to how the rules/alignments are supposed to be changed.

Both of the bands that are advancing to State out of Area D are very deserving of being heard at State. Let's not denigrate either of those bands by saying that another band is "obviously" so much more deserving that we should change the rules ex post facto.

I do not want to squash discussion about whether or not rules should be changed in the future (such discussion is always valuable when done in a civil and open-minded manner), but I also do not want rules to be ignored.

I agree with you. Additionally, I think that no matter how the Areas are re-drawn, someone is going to be unhappy and there will be a lot of quality bands competing against each other.

Has anyone heard anything about Haltom's recording or Lopez's recordings? I heard they are both pretty good, but have not heard either of them.

Also, does anyone know what 14 honor band contenders recorded (except for Coppell, Duncanville, Spring, The Woodlands, and Marcus; those are already posted) ?

I was curious, so I looked up the repertoires of the region 9 and 20 ensembles.

Coppell

Commando March

Symphony in Bb

Symphonie Fantastique: Dream of a Witches' Sabbath

Duncanville

Overture to School for Scandal

Pictures at an Exhibition

The Cross of Honour

Spring

March to the Scaffold

Lux Aurumque

Belkis, Queen of Sheba, 4th Mvmnt.

The Woodlands

Invictus

Trittico

Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks

To be honest, I'm sort of surprised/not entirely surprised that Spring is doing Lux Aurumque. It's a great piece to show off the musicality of an ensemble, and it's stunningly beautiful. At the same time, though, it seems a bit on the easier side for a group of Spring's caliber. Still, this may be compensated by the difficulty of the other two pieces.

Edit: *sigh* iPhone formatting...Should be fixed now.

Actually the Lux Aurumque isn't the piece that was submitted by Spring. That was only a UIL piece. El Salon de Mexico was the third submitted piece by Spring.

I managed to lose the sheet that I had with what everyone played. Does anyone still have a copy they can put up so we can see who played what? I mean, I know what my band played...because we worked on it for what felt like forever...but I can't remember what everyone else played.

just type in the school name

Unfortunately, that method isn't 100% accurate for TMEA Honor Band submissions.

Some bands play one set of pieces for UIL and then change out one or two pieces for Honor Band.

For example, Spring played El Salon Mexico for Honor Band instead of Lux Aurumque which they played for UIL.
