I'll just say it, Leander is basically the only central Texas band there...

Leander,Spring and College Park are neck and neck in prelims...

Freindswood, Brazoswood and Westfield are also neck and neck in prelims...

I think Dawson and Leander will do very well- Top 5 for sure- Maybe one will win. It will be a very close race for the first 7-8 spots! Cant wait!!!

I would complete the top five with College Park, Westfield, and Spring... Knowing how well this year has been going...

Top five random order:

Leander

Spring

Dawson

College Park

Westfield

Geez its hard picking the top five!!! I had to leave out a lot of good bands...

For the first time in a while I don't think Brazoswood is in contention for the top spot. Spring certainly ends the season near the top, but I don't know if they are clean enough to win. They're always so hush hush until the last week or so of competition. Nevertheless, I think they might pull it out. College Park is unquestionably having a great year, and if Dawson is anywhere near last year's level, they are a serious threat. Since it's a state year, Westfield might step it up again as well.

The Top 5 is a really tight pack, but I have a gut feeling that it will end up like this (in order):

Spring

Dawson

Leander

College Park

Westfield

Every one of those 5 has potential for winning this contest, I think.

yeah i am surprised no one mentioned college park until recently! they have a great show (though cheesy-ish kinda with the patriotic theme, nontheless it was great). and not to mention they recently placed 6th at BOA conroe. im not gonna lie, there are so plenty bands that could make finals here and it's going to be a toss up to who even wins.

i think top 5 (random order) will be:Spring, Dawson, Leander, College Park, Friendswood/Brazoswood

very excited to perform this saturday :) best of luck to all the bands! :)

Did you get to watch any of their marching shows this year?

I've seen all of the bands that were at BOA Conroe, and a few videos of other bands like Leander. I have no idea about Spring; I'm basing that purely off years past. Same with Westfield.

Spring - haven't seen them, don't know how good they are...

Dawson - (

) May not be as loud as the other bands, but they sure do have some great clarity, a touching show. Pretty clean drill. Woodwinds know how to play technique pretty well! Lots of exposed but clean drill. Beautiful flute solo in the middle and the end. Balance issues, but this was a week ago so they probably fixed them, knowing this band program.

Leander - ( http://www.statesman.com/videos/news/battl...h-school/vfgcG/ ) Course I am biased because I am from this School. Cool flute solo in the beginning. Nice flugelhorn solo. There are a few clarity issues during the first brass hit... The Drill is very well designed. GE-wise I think it has potential, but then again I am biased...

College Park- (video has been taken down) Very impressed with them this year... Really stepping it up... The GE in the show is pretty high, of course and I think the show design will take them far...

Westfield-(No video) This is like a flute concerto for marching band... GE-wise I think this show has a lot of potential... They sound pretty big for a smallish band... Looking to do well this year. I like the cliff platform thing...!

I agree with you; I think Spring will take the cake this year.

As for Brazoswood, they're going to be entering this contest with a lot to prove after last week, so they very well could rebound. As of right now in the season though, I don't believe we'll see them with a top 3 finish at this one.

Best of luck to all bands competing. Lonestar is a great contest.

I never said I didn't believe in Brazoswood-- I stated that "they very well could rebound", one of the reasons being that they're entering this contest with the mindset that they have a lot to prove since last week's contest. I said in my argument (also my opinion) that right now in the season, I don't believe they'll be making a top 3 finish at this specific contest. Just because I don't think they're going to place in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at this specific contest doesn't mean I don't believe in Brazoswood.

Read carefully before telling me I don't believe in my own alma mater.

You mistook me, but I agree that they are a band that traditionally peaks late. I know they spent the week working with Daniel Montoya, So I am hoping to see some big improvements. I think they have some stiff competition, but we will see soon enough!

Sorry man I didn't mean for it to be offensive... Looking back at it, I guess it came out that way...

I did not get to see all the bands but I did not think Spring scored that high. I had them at 4th (at best) in the 2nd block of performers. The Circus tents were a distraction to me and limlited the ability to march on the field. Leander, clear brook, and college park Performed better in my opinion...I was also surprised Dawson was not at least 10th..
