Am I right in saying that LDB has not played in a contest yet? I saw a post saying that they were going to play BOA St Louis and then straight to UIL Area and BOA San Antonio. Now that's confidence!

It doesn't mean that it's right or wrong--their past success speaks volumes. It's just interesting. Most schools have already played in 2-3 contests and pretty much know where they are.

I believe Bell went to BOA St. Louis in 2004.

Looks like there will be a good showing from Texas. I guess Anderson and Richland are in the same boat as Bell.

Correct. L.D. Bell won the BOA St. Louis Regional in 2004 by over a point and a half. I wish Texas programs would do an out-of-state Regional more often!

I don't see it as (over-)confidence. Perhaps they are focusing their rehearsals/performances to exhibit the best possible show. They are a seasoned program and I'm sure their staff are very calculated.

I hear that Broken Arrow is only attending Grand Nationals; I'm sure they definitely know what they're doing.

I don't see it as (over) confidence, either. Sometimes, I think bands want to create a buzz of their show by being in several competitions(as well as getting judges remarks, of course). Others want their show kept as quiet as possible to create its own sort of "buzz" of anticipation. Both courses of action can benefit the band. I suppose there can be some problems with both, too. I just look at the positives. LD Bell's show is the only one of the "big" ones from Area B that I haven't seen, yet. I've seen Marcus, Hebron, Haltom, and Richland shows(the "regulars" making it to State). Do I have a bit of excited anticipation in seeing Bell's show? Y-E-S! So, at least for me, it's working!

Don't forget that Birdville is going to be at St. Louis, btw. I've seen their show, too. They pack quite a punch!

Good luck to our Texas comrades in St. Louis this weekend! I wish you perfect weather! :)

I will be hopefully (on-site) all day Saturday to get some prelim and finals reviews in. I'm using Twitter for the occasion (I'm not as fancy-schmancy as TXbands :P):

www.twitter.com/vecchant02_v

I only plan on using it for contests, so no need to worry about hearing what color underwear I'm wearing, or getting an extended synoptic article on Aristotelian metaphysics.

LD Bell is a shoe-in

Richland will likely make it

Anderson will likely make it

Birdville's chances are 50/50. They missed it by 1 last time, but they've made it in the past.

Despite the fact that St. Louis is a Super Regional, I think BOA Arlington was a more stacked competition.
