I feel like a lot of the usual bands from Region 28 will be there in Finals. The last few spots are pretty much a toss-up though.

In no particular order:

Harlingen

Hanna

Lopez

Donna

San Benito

Harlingen South

O'Connor

United

Sharyland

Alexander

I don't really know much about the other Laredo or San Antonio schools, so I suppose one of them could sneak in there. I'd say these are pretty much locks for state:

Hanna

Lopez

Harlingen

Donna

Harlingen South

San Benito

O'Connor

The last spot is up for grabs.

Here is my prediction for Finals with the * being locks at advancing:

O'Connor*

Harlingen*

Hanna*

Donna*

Lopez*

Sharyland

Alexander

San Benito

Brandeis

United

This is of course if the prelims are judged fairly and no "median scoring" method is used for the early bands.

I'll say:

Finalists

Harlingen

O'Connor

Lopez

Donna

Hanna

San Benito

Harlingen South

Laredo United

Brandeis

Palmview

State:

Harlingen

O'Connor

Donna

Lopez

Hanna

San Benito

Harlingen South

Palmview

Alt. United- Great First Half of show, good band!

Area G is a bloodbath this year. Locks are definitely Harlingen, Donna, Lopez, Hanna and O'Connor.

From then on it's a big ole' mess. Any of these bands could make the cut

United

Alexander

San Benito

Taft

Marshall

Brandeis

Warren

Palmview

PSJA North

Sharyland

Good luck to all the other bands who will be there!

I really wouldn't consider Marshall and Warren potential finalists, there's just too many bands that are better than them at Area this year, IMO.

I can see from your username that you go to Taft ;) Best of luck in Laredo next week, I hope both our programs can represent NISD well! :D

I wouldn't be too sure about Marshall. They usually don't seem like a threat early on in the season but they tend to peak right around Area, barely missing finals 2 years back. As for Warren, I've only seen their show from a backfield view so I don't really know what everything looks like, but they seem like pretty strong competition. Honestly, with all of these great bands at this contest, anything can happen. Good luck to you guys too! Only 2 more days!

Those advancing to state in random order... (please post reply if you know the final placement order?)

5A Area G - United, O'Connor, Hanna, Harlingen, Harlingen South, Donna, San Benito, Lopez

"Panther Band" O'Connor had a strong finals performance and placed 2nd in finals of the 8 bands advancing to state out of Area G. The OC band has come on strong as the season has progressed. Congrats to all of the bands that participated in Area G, The Finalist and to those advancing to state.

Here's the links for the full results for those interested in the caption rankings as well:

Prelims

Finals

Scores were definitely all over the place during prelims... But I guess that's to be expected when you have 42 bands competing over a span of 11 hours!

I was really rooting for the two other NISD bands that made finals (Taft and Clark) and it's just a shame that they didn't advance to state.

Marching judging was very consistent in prelims. There were only 5 instances of the 2 judges being more than 10 ranks apart across 42 bands.

Music judging was all over the place. 7 instances of divergence by 20 places or more:

3rd & 29th for Lopez

3rd & 28th for San Benito

11th & 33rd for Sharyland

9th & 36th for Edinburg North

7th & 33rd for McAllen

11th & 39th for J.P Stevens

17th & 40th for Marshall
