All the shows I saw yesterday were still pretty dirty. The only show that really amazed was Richland HS. They played much better than any of the bands there and their show as great! Reagan was definitely not the best band there. (And no I don't go to Richland). And what has happened to LD Bell? The show they played was extremely uninteresting and not very Bell-like. Brazoswood was very good! That was another band that definitely outplayed the top two. Overall, all the bands played and marched well.

I was pretty amazed by Richland as well but the narraration I didn't like very much, it kind of creeped me out ^^;; As for LD Bell's show, I've talked to a lot of people that didn't like it. Personally, I didn't think it was boring as a lot of people have called it, I thought the whole thing was really pretty. I think once they clean it up and start getting more sound out it will be really good. (I really liked their guard uniforms too, I thought they looked cool) This might just be because I have a whole lot of respect for the LD Bell band. Reagan as a whole has tons of respect for them. They always stay to watch our preformance (or encore preformance like they did last night) no matter what, and they're always really classy about eveything they do whether they win or not. I was more impressed by Churchill, they put out some good sound and had a lot of nice visuals, though they had more "park and play" moments than I would have liked to see, I still loved the preformance though. As for us, I only saw a tiny bit of the recording so I'm not really sure if we were the "best band there" or not, but I know everyone in Reagan did their best and so did all of the other kids of every other band, so congrats to everyone. I think the whole regional turned out to be nothing short of amazing, I had a lot of fun watching the bands that I could. I was complaining the whole time that my kidneys were gonna explode because I didn't want to go to the bathroom and miss anyone's show ^^

Richland had VERY creepy narration. The reagan "gimmick" you speak of seemed out of place, but I laughed because it was just so random. B-wood could PLAY!! They need better visual and overall design. That is their downfall.

ok, Our prelim preformance sucked, yes. But out of the top four bands yesterday, any of them can beat each other on any given day. although we got fourth, most of us are really really happy with the progess weve made. and yes the drill is hella hard. anyone who thinks different can just suit up for me to find out. yes the show is still very dirty and an 85.75 is not that great compared to potential my group has. this was a little reality check thats it. we all know what this seasons only real contest is gonna be.

The "gimmick" as you call it is kind of supposed to be random and crazy and out of place. It goes along with the "You Never Know" thing. ^^

LD Bell person!! You guys were great! Congrats to you and your band, I enjoyed watching your show a lot. And thanks for staying and watching us ^^ you guys are always so classy. Congrats again, and good luck on your next competition, wherever it is, and at BOA San Antonio (you're going, right?)

Rebel_Raider05, I'm just trying to understand your username.

Did you used to go to Richland (Rebels) and now you go to Bell (Raiders)? And the '05 doesn't mean you graduated in '05?

Posted

Yeah he used to go to Richland, and no he is graduating in 07.

You know, I keep hearing about how hard *insert band name here*'s drill is, and to be honest, you wont find any drill in a high school competition that is really that difficult, maybe its just challenging to that particular person.

And a lot of the difficulty in the drill has to do with what you don't see.

I obviously go to Richland and our opener "Aloft!" opens up with drill that requires you to separate what you're playing, with what you're marching. Sure now that i've been doing it for months now i've gotten it under my feet. But its sort of hard marching in four step sequences when your music alternates between a 4/4 and a 3/4 meter.

And it would take a really smart person to notice that without knowing it before. And everyone keeps bagging on Bell and I personally thought their performance was fine, it just needs cleaning, they have the part that most groups never get throughout the entire season, and thats actually PERFORMING the show.

And as for Reagan, I've been a huge reagan fan since I saw "Beyond Perimiters" which to this day is my favorite high school marching show. It just floors me each time I watch it. So unlike some of my classmates, I wasn't surprised when they threw down an amazing show. Although I think they could do for a more professional voice over surprise.

That and everyone in my section was impressed with their trumpet soloist/person playing high above the ensemble. Well..you know a lot of us can do that if given the chance to have a part like that in the show. A lot of us trumpets here at Richland are itching for, and jump at every oportunity to show ourselves off. Which thank god our director Bill Watson has finally seen what he has in terms of trumpet players, and has given us the chance to push ourselves a bit.

All in all though, I wish I would have gotten to see Churchill's show because everyone seems amazed by it, and i'm thankful to have seen Reagan's because I know they are never a dissapointment. And please, just because Bell all of a sudden is out in front by 10 points, doesn't mean anything to their band program, this year is just a really great year for High School Marching Band.

You're gonna graduate in 07, which makes you a junior, right? Then why in the world would you say something like the above? I'd hope that anyone from a respectable band such as yours would realize that for any band, every competition should be the most important. Arlington was a regional so stacked I couldn't wait to see it, and it is definately one of the hardest regionals this year. This competition was one of the greatest contests I've seen in a long time, and Nats is by no means the "only real contest". Please be a little more considerate of what you say in the future.

Oh yeah I was gonna comment on that, this Arlington regional was HUGE, it actually even shaped up to be harder than San Antonio will be. The only thing making San Antonio more competitive is the fact that all the top bands from this Arlington regional have seen what they're against, and now they're going to use it in their practices. This is going to be the highest scoring BOA year i've ever seen.

the ballad represented 'the agony of defeat'. so naturally the middle boxing ring stays on the field.. and one of the boxers wins and one loses.. etc.

hey if it is suppose to represent "the agony of defeat" how come it showed the girl who won and how she was all tired after her win?

It didn't.

The girl coming to the front after the fight was KO'd by the other girl. She was so sad that she lost that she was pulled off her gloves in disgust.

who's The Richland Trumpet? i didnt think anyone else in my section was on this... and yeah it's pretty disappointing that we dont have brass solos this year... i wanted to see us redeem ourselves after the troubles we had with last year's soloists
