Loudsaxes1 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Just a question. How many sets are in anyone's high school show. I go to poteet and we have 76 and last year we had 72. I'm just wondering if most of the state bands normally have this much plus or minus Quote

Euphonipwn Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Number of sets also has a lot to do with length of music/count structures. If bands have lots of 12 or 16 count moves, they are likely to have "fewer" sets compared to other schools who might only have 8 count moves. Overall, time ends up being around the same, it's just a different way of getting there! Quote
Loudsaxes1 Posted November 1, 2013 Author Posted November 1, 2013 Our set to set counts normally are about 10-12 counts around that and our show is about 7min 40 secs long. I've never heard of a sub set. Wat is this? Quote

If a band is taking a giant form (Iike an arc or diag) a long way across the field, they may use sub sets to make it easier to hold the form together by giving the kids a visual aid. For example, a sub set might be noted as "Set 45A." Quote
takigan Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 [This topic came up in the "Best 4A State Contest" thread. It was off-topic, but seemed like a good topic for a new thread so I split it from the original and made a new thread out of it.] Euphonipwn 1 Quote
Loudsaxes1 Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Oh this makes a lot of sense. We kinda use those. Can't wait to see all the bands tommorrow. We perform right before cedar park. Hopefully our style of fast paced intense marching will sway the judges thinking instead of the normal boa style Quote
