Haha, I hope you are kidding. Good lord, of course I'm kidding! Well, I'd actually love to go on one, just because I don't want to go in the first place...I'd love to see how the judge would react, or my band director! Quote

boydbronco94 Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I use my R-13 for Concert season and my E-11 for marching season. Both have served me well, but the R-13 is obviously my first choice! However, I am currently debating whether or not I should invest in a plastic clarinet for next year's marching season. A wooden E-11, especially in this Texas weather, is really not the best choice.. O.o Any suggestions? Quote
I MARCH Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Well the cheaper is R-13 there's is the Buffet Prestige which is the next step up from r-13 and then the tosca but they are really expensive. Best bet is to buy the r-13 Quote
dragonbandclarinet Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 how do you know what type of clarinet you have? Quote
EternalFlame Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 If it's a Buffet, there's a little seal that says Buffet (unless it's really, really old - I'm talking like 30+ years). It'll also have serial numbers engraved into the upper and lower joints. You can track the age of the professional models using the serial numbers and Buffet's website. I've only got expieriance with the E-11, the R-13, and borrowed C-13 and RC Prestiges myself, however. I don't know if that holds true for their plastic models, never having even touched one. Quote
dragonbandclarinet Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 i have a clarinet that was handed down to me by my late greatgrandfather who was a drum major at baylor university during the 1930's or 40's. ive been trying to find out what type or model it is but have not been having much luck. i brought it to a professional (my private lesson teacher) a few years ago and even she couldnt really specify what type it was. i have noticed that it has many extra keys compared to the Bb saprano that i play on currently. there is also a buffet mark on it and a serial number: 1427. if anyone can help me identify this instrument it would be greatly appreciated. I have had mine since 7th grade and the only repairs on it if you take great care is pad changes, plus a great sound. Also as far as mouthpeices go I recommend a Robert Scott Mouthpeice. Reeds: Vandoren Rue Lupics(sp?) they are such amazing reeds. They are the newest by Vandoren and sound great esp for Texas. As far as jazz..Get as many great jazz books because you dont become a jazz player over night. The first chair clarinet at my school has been practicing jazz since her freshman year and finally as a Junior last year she was able to get all the solos from Benny Goodman's sing, sing, sing. And if you dont know who Benny Goodman is...then you should be one ashamed clarinet player! Expand Imagine having an R13 in 7th grade. I wanted one in 12th grade but never got one... Quote

Of course, it'd be better if I didn't use it for marching season too (I'll wait while you other clarinet players gasp in horror) but considering how much it's been through, it's awesome! I also reccommend using cork padding--it lasts longer from what I hear. I only got it because it prevents wear and tear from marching season. As for Benny Goodman, I think we're playing his collection of songs for the spring concert...at least, if my band director has enough faith in me to pull off all the solos because jazz stuff has always been my weak spot As for the rue lepics, I <33333 them!! I ran out and haven't ordered anymore and since Vandoren is like, short on reeds or something, I can't even get the silver box...I've been getting Mitchell Lurie's or something.Grr PS---does anyone know where I could get a Benny Goodman CD? Expand How did you get one in 7th grade? Quote
