Congrats to everyone. bowie's show was absolutely AMAZING!!! mucho congrats to them. we missed finals by .35 it kinda sucks, but i think it'll be good for the band program. i do not understand how winston churchhill got 6th. their colorguard was indescribable. everyone in finals did really well though.
xMonicax Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Congrats to everyone, the whole thing was AMAZING ^^ (except for warming up in the crippling heat this afternoon for prelims, uhg)
Lustra.exe Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 whats even more impressive is that reagan smoked everyone by 2+ points and they went 2nd in finals ... cograts to bands tonight, all of them where amazing.

I wouldn't have minded the second in finals had we not just preformed, y'know? Like if we had done prelims on friday and didn't have to do them today, I wouldn't have minded so much, but I was really annoyed when I heard we got 2nd (Our director didn't even get to draw it, haha, it was the last one left) but that's alright, congrats again to everyone ^^ Nats is in less than a week, I can't wait ^______^
Lustra.exe Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 i dont think churchill lovers will like it so much when they hear that they got 5th... i was sitting by a whole bunch of people that heard their placement and it was a mix of confusion and awe. exp: "whaaaa???" "woooah!" "oooooo" "ooouch" so as you can see, the vowels of the reactions were very elongated for dramatic effect. so yeah, that was interesting. i personally liked their show. very churchillesque.
themainclarinet Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 All I have to say is I LOVED CHURCHILL!!! AMAZING SHOW AND GUARD! IF anyone saw Mark Sloan having a fit durring te show it was insane! He couldn't stop jumping up and down. But I have to say that Judging was VERY interesting these past two days!
nnelsonbsn Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Churchill's colorgaurd was absolutely incredible, as usual. Watching all the shows I would have to say these few words: WTF MARCUS?!? It was good, but I personally feel the need to express that other bands were much cleaner and sounded much fuller and less EHEHHHHHHH (dark-side sound) than them. It was loud and I think that is what won them music. Personally I think Bowie had an absolutely fantastic show. It was clean and the oboe solo needs to be given TONS of credit. It is a very very difficult excerpt. Congrats to Bowie. I think Reagan how should I say... chopped up the music too much. If I hadnt played Symphonic Metamorphasis AND Profanation, I would have no idea what was going on in their show. I loved the last note in the corner around to dome too. Fantastic idea. Churchill gaurd > *. Tossing like 90s out of no where. SFA had a great show but I personally think that Churchill was > them tonight.. but those 2 bands > marcus. I think marcus was placed higher than deserved.. my opinion. Richland's show was great. It really had my attention the whole time. Great show idea... anyway congrats to all the bands. Thanks for the performances. (all these are my opinions and not those of my organizations)
ducktape1541 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I agree with nick on that one, Marcus was WAY over-ranked. I'm not saying it was bad cause all the bands that I saw were awesome. Congrats to all who performed tonight (or last night since its actually sunday now).
oh_snap44 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Congrats to all the bands that performed this weekend! I got to catch the finals performances (after BTHOO Baylor!) and it was definitely worth the money and the drive. Thanks for a great show...can't wait until next year's bloodbath!
G'townPIT Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 so what happened to cedar park? I heard that the echo got to them in pre-lims.
mindfulmusician Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 actualgirltrombone said: we missed finals by .35 it kinda sucks, but i think it'll be good for the band program. Props to you, man. .35!? That's gotta be rough...but, I can empathize - in 2003, Seguin had an AWESOME performance, but missed finals by .75 that year (mainly in GE). So, yeah, I know JUST how you feel. Also, were there any other bands that anyone thought SHOULD have made finals...like, Cedar Park for example. Was Spring there? Did anyone catch their show? - mindfulmusician
Danpod Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 After watching pretty much all of Prelims, the top 14 was right. Looking back on the performances, the top 14 chosen last night was the correct 14. As far as Spring's show, the show was dirty visually. I noticed a lot of individual marching errors. The show didn't enthrall me from a General Effect standpoint, which is why I think they didn't make Finals. Each of the top 14 had some sort of hook about them, whether it was amazing playing, great visual, or a solid combination of both.
themainclarinet Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 THE ECHO! WTF did you hear that! the sound system screwed up in the pre-show, but technically that is not really "judged" (it freaked out all the freshman who are the first to march (dumb drill)). It was basically 260 people or so with a big heads thinking it would be automatically given into finals. A HUGE lesson was learned from that. Also tempos dragged...184 became like 174 and 174 was like 168. It wasn't that bad of a performance, musically not too bad, but after hearing the bands that went to finals! WOW! some of these bands over BOAed themselves. But I have to agree with Nick, after playing profanation in concert season, I wouldn't have been able to guess what was going on! Churchill should have totaly been higher and same with richland! Richland kept my attention the entire time unlike Bowie. Churchill though, I can't get over how great of a show and how poor of a score! Oh and spring was there, but didn't make finals, their truck was leaving with ours:(
actualgirltrombone Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 i personally do NOT understand BOA. Huge props to everyone who can dance in their show and not think it's weird. yay for state next year!
Danpod Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Depends on your definition of "dance". Take a loose definition to it and technically, everyone did it. Take a more tight of a definition and really, only Haltom was the one to have a true dance break. Body movement is a part of marching band, whether you like it or not.
Clarinot Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I don't think it is right to call a dance or anything move "weird." Just because your band doesn't focus on GE doesn't mean that it is unheard of. I personally watching effective GE shows, because as long as the music and visual components of the shows are still good, it holds the audience captive.
nnelsonbsn Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Dancing is completely acceptable in any marching band situation. But 1 minute dance breaks with your horns on the ground are only acceptable is certain situations (Cavies '02). I don't think our show was bad at all, in fact I think the middle and ending movements were fantastic from where I was. The opener was shaky but that was because of the 1 set tear at the beginning because of the sound system. Anyway, more reviewish things. Westfield's show was pretty cool... the music was generally clean as well as the drill, but the thing was it was not very engaging or... stimulating I guess. It was just kind of there and I think that hurt them in the GE department. The end was cool where they all ran around and jumped on the ground. Westlake... meh... dirty music but it was very difficult and known pieces. That is why I like Westlake, they play difficult music well. Their marching was alright and I didn't really understand their show concept. I would like to express again how clean I thought Bowie's show was. Just amazing. I'm not going to write any more because honestly, I wasn't paying enough attention to anyone else. GJ to all performing bands, I look forward to attending as a spectator next years. (These opinions are my own and are not sanctioned by my organizations)
euro_euph06 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Danpod--where are the reviews?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
themainclarinet Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Also, where is L.D. BELL???? What ever happened to them? Did they drop doing BOA after winning state last year? They have pretty good shows that are quality BOA and quality U.I.L. Hope to see them at state next year!

I just dont think my band could really ever do that. But believe me, it was awesome to watch.
trumPITplayer Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 its really awesome to hear that so many people loved our show. thats what its all about....well for me anyway. i was a little dissapointed when we got 6th, but to me....we won when we got a standing ovation, that crowd reaction won it for us.....great way to end my last boa. and seeing mike jumping and screaming made my day. i really like SFA's show.... im kinda sad i didnt get to see every1s shows....maybe i can download them! since thats what us band losers do....lol
Mculbert07 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I wasnt able to sleep friday night because I was looking forward to this so much. I hyped myself up, I made my predictions about who was going to make finals and all this stuff. I was completely blown away by everyone. Just a few Comments: Roma: Why didn't you perform your exhibition? Ronald Reagan: Do the chickens have large talons? Brazoswood: Your musicality was better than incredible. Marcus: Whyyyyyy was your colorguard in character during the announcements? It was really funny though. Great musical selection I got shivers just hearing what you were about to play. The Woodlands: Cute. Bowie: Wow!
actualgirltrombone Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 brazoswood had gorgeous sounds. the trumpet sounds *sighs* so beauuutiful!! i didnt hear that thing in reagan's show that made everyone laugh.. could someone explain it to me?
