nnelsonbsn Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Ouch Martin > Bell 10-11 That's no good. Bell probably got poorly judged because of the random 3 and 5 and three 1s.
themainclarinet Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I hate stupid judging! What is with these judges lately?
PlayOboe Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 From what I've heard, the 3 and the 5 in music were more accurate than the 1st......
Xenon Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 nnelsonbsn said: Bell probably got poorly judged because of the random 3 and 5 and three 1s. The 3 and 5 were not random, they were music scores while two of the 1sts were marching. From the many times that I have seen both Bell and Martin this year, I can tell you straight up that the 1st in music was the odd score amongst the music judges.
Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I bet this was a big shock to the L.D. Bell band.
smusic Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 The judges are definitely not stupid. Martin has one of the best shows in the state this year. Great music and awesome drill make up their show. Bell marches very well, but they do not get the sound of a Haltom, Duncanville, Berkner, Plano East, or any of the top 5A bands...they never have. And I doubt it was a shock to Bell because they do not have a champoinship show this year.
Martinbandownsyou06 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Ok i go to Martin, LD Bell is a great band one of the best marching in the state. But i heard their music at BOA regionals in arlington and i wasnt impressed which is probally why they got 4th because first of richlands music is incredible and so is churchill and reagan
Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 It will be interesting to see L.D. Bell's rank at the national contest next week.
mindfulmusician Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Man, looking at those scores, those have GOT to be UIL judges, or at least they're judging on the UIL system. Perhaps I am biased because my band got the short end of the UIL stick last year, but it seems like UIL's system is very dysfunctional...there's usually little to no consistency with the scores, and there are always those occasions where some judges think that a band is AWESOME, and some think they SUCKED. Sorry, but those are just my 2 cents.

Band Of Champions Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Many judges are biased. Big time. But I think they got it right on this one.

smusic Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Usually biased towards BOA in this day and age. Usually it is the UIL band getting the short end of the stick even at state UIL.

Band Of Champions Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 i personally think martin has one of the best musical performance in the state
arundo Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Since L.D Bell got 3 1's, they won according to the format at the competition.
Sicemb Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 The format of the competition is: Lowest overall rank score wins. The only time that the "3 first place votes" rule comes into effect is when a band might possibly be left out of going to the state marching band competition. It had nothing to do with the results of this contest. You can read the above posts to see what the prelim rank totals were.
Band Of Champions Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I was at the NTC and I just wanted to say that the Allen band has alot of class. They didn't rub it in Martin's face and they gave us crowd a huge entertainment. Thanks again Allen.
Band Of Champions Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 by Quote They didn't rub it in Martin's face I mean they didn't act like they deserved to win more.
smusic Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Brazoswood, Duncanville, Berkner, Plano East, Langham Creek, and Haltom are examples of bands that have amazing musical talent. I hate to say Bell does not, but they don't! Get real.
Band Of Champions Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I think Allen has great musical talent, but that is just because of the size of the band. I also like Martin's sound from such a small band.
Rowlett_08 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I am the drum major for the Rowlett Band and i have a few comments of my own from the North Texas Band Championships: 1st, I know L.D. Bell is really good but I think Martin deserved to win. Martin Had a great show and part of it was because L.D. Bell had to learn a 15 min show to take to Grand Nationals. If anyone got ratings that they didnt deserve, it was Allen. The 500+ member band marches eveyone in there band...no alternates and they got ranked 1ST in MARCHING. Above Bell, Martin and Rowlett. I DONT THINK SO. That was cheap. The prelims results should have been, Martin 1st, Bell 2nd, Keller 3rd, Rowlett 4th, Allen 5th. Since Bell didnt go UIL format at finals, it should have been Martin 1st, Keller 2nd, Rowlett 3rd and Allen somewhere close behind. Let me know if you disagree or want to discuss!!! And I do have to say Rowlett had an off year
Xukaniz Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 I know Allen is big and clumsy, but man their sound is massive, I love it.
