titancoaster Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I congradulate all those who beat us (connally), yalls shows were awsome, poteet you could be in 5A state it was so perfect! Hendrickson goodjob, You go t it done, I think UIL is turning more BOA. Poteet was one of few exceptions. I personally think we should have placed higher than hhs just because our show was done about the same as yall but ours was alot harder. Congradts to all! godd luck 5a, for next year Quote
nnelsonbsn Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Well, almost perfect from prelims to finals. Didn't notice the two bands got switched. Quote
BluedevilinWHS Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I think the judges had misjudgements on the placement of the bottom 4 ranks in finals. I and many other educated spectators thought that Aledo, Roma and New Braunfels should have either gotten a lower rank or should have not made finals. Waxahachie and Dickinson had really strong shows and executed them extremely well and SHOULD have made the finals, especially Waxahachie's. They kicked butt, yet missed it by 3 points, I do not think that was right, but all did awesome jobs and are truly the 21 best bands in the nation!! CONGRATS! Quote
SCSquidSnaps Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Congratulations to all the bands that made finals at state. My band, Juan Seguin made it to state, but didn't make it to finals. So great job to all that did! Your shows were awesome! Quote
Shadow Weaver Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 This is a very old thread, but having been at state and seen these bands, I feel I must interject. No doubt Waxahachie and Dickinson had great shows. However, it is in verrry bad taste to downplay the achievement of bands like New Braunfels, Aledo, and Roma. All three bands are top notch programs (Roma and New Braunfels are TMEA State Honor Band Silver and Bronze medalists, respectively). I should also point out that, having seen prelims and finals, it was also clear that quite a few bands had less than stellar finals performances, which can even be demonstrated in score analysis. The band that had the biggest performance difference (clearly demonstrated in scores) was definitely New Braunfels. While not their best performance in prelims (I have acquired a tape of their Friday performance before state as testament of that), they were nonetheless a solid Top 7 (check the scores) going into finals. Finals was a whole nother story, and the band fell apart with phasing/tempo problems. The band was deserving of their 9th place finals ranking. You can't have a bad performance at state finals and expect to rank higher. However, there is a distinct difference between a bad performance and a bad band, and New Braunfels was definitely deserving of their finals position. Aledo showed complexity of music/drill, and though dirty, still performed their show at a high level. Roma was impecably clean and were solid finalists in prelims and finals. To my knowledge, Waxahachie has never made state finals in the past. Both New Braunfels and Roma have. Not only that, but Roma and New Braunfels have two of the elite 4A wind ensembles in the state and are perennial TMEA Honor Band finalists. Aledo and Hendrickson were the only real newcomers. Do not insult the success of other programs simply because your program did not achieve what it would have liked to achieve. Suck it up, congratulate the hard-working finalists (you know how hard your band worked to get their ranking. These bands worked just as hard if not harder. They deserve your respect) and move on. QuadraticBeats Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I haven't heard of these bands except for the fact that they beat us. Bad. The drumline trophies made this marching season all worth it in the end though... I really wish our band directors ran the band more like our percussion instructor runs the percussion section. Maybe they've just given up on the band. Quote
