Band Of Champions Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 ^for future notice..to add stuff u can just click edit on your last post.. Oh sorry about that. I have never seen a judge. That's odd... Quote
QuadraticBeats Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I wouldn't know, since last year I was in the pit, and this year our percussion drill kept us in the back the entire show. So we didn't really notice the judges. Quote

QuadraticBeats Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Well... unfortunately, our band seems limited to merely local competition due to our newness right now. So we lack that sort of excitement... and also have a rather tense atmosphere at times for fear of being the next victim of one Mr. C.'s random verbal explosions (he doesn't curse, he just tends to insult the player more or less... or threatens to throw the person off the part. The thing about it is that it just seems so random... and uncontrollable). Quote
coolest_kid_ever Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 last year i almost creamed the percussion field judge, but i didnt even know til after one of our tenor players told me. apparently he was right behind me. and then me hearing talking alllllllllll made sense. Quote
Skippy Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 In BOA, there is a percussion judge following the drumline almost the entire time. No there isn't. There is an onfield music judge that samples all performers. There is no judge for solely percussion. DCI has one though. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Watchin those dci judges run across the field tryin to dodge pple is pretty entertaining. Quote
mbui Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 QUOTE (manuel_pablo @ Nov 30 2005, 10:06 PM) In BOA, there is a percussion judge following the drumline almost the entire time. At BOA, the two judges that you see on the field are judging, 'Music Performance-Individual' & 'Visual Performance-Individual.' Sometimes, the MPI judge will follow the drumline and look at the pit since it is part of the sheet. The MPI subcaption is broken down into three sections, Percussion being one of them... Brass - 75 Woodwinds - 75 Percussion - 50 TOTAL = 200 (or 20.00 points) Quote
Trumpeter07 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 In our "Claustrophobia" our third movement started out with us going forward and then turning and facing the right and going like 5-5 steps and a judge was walking right next to me while i was marching it and i turned and WHAM right into him it was hilarious i just plowed through him. haha Quote
escababe07 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 we've never had judges down on the field with us... at any contest. they're always in the press box... is that unique to us or something? Quote
itsstephenyo Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 im quite sure its not unique to you guys. allen probably just doesnt go to contest that has an on field judge. Quote
MartinHorn Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 UTA Marching Festival Birdville Marching Contest Duncanville Marching Invotational North Texas Band Championship Anybody know if judges are on the field at these contests? Quote
escababe07 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 pretty sure not north texas, cause we were there. they were all in the press box. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 We've never been to any contest with judges on the field either... there was camera men on the field taking pictures though. Quote
bariphonium Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 As far as I know, most local contests don't have judges on the field. I don't think UIL has them either. Some bands just don't participate in BOA, and so don't know about on-field judges. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I wish we did BOA but I dont think were competetive enough yet. Quote
cookie_monster Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 my freshman year we were all in this big block that pulled forward into a diamond and first the judge was caught in the that but that wasn't too bad because all he did was follow us so he wouldn't get creamed but then we had this big for lack of a better term "docie-do" (if that's how you spell it prolly not) move where there was a group of 4 people in the diamond and we all switched places and the judge was still caught. it was pretty funny watching the tape of him trying to get out. Quote
escababe07 Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 I wish we did BOA but I dont think were competetive enough yet. our directors don't like boa. at least that's the impression i've gotten. i actually had no idea so many people did it, until this year i'd never heard of it, and until about 3 weeks ago the only band i knew who did it was l.d.bell. *shrug* would we even be allowed in? but this is off topic. i wonder how judges (if we ever had on field judges) would manage seeing all of us? twould be impossible, i think. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 lol, it would be pretty difficult. I had never even heard of BOA either till I went on Marching Band planet last year. I dont think any bands in my region go to it... but yea this is off topic.... Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 If anyone remembers the big shrinky ball in exodus i think i judge got caught in the middle of it and yelled out some vulgur language. It was in semis i think. In finals during the giant 4 to 5 X you can also see someone run right into a judge. Quote
mnkyman Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 i wonder how judges (if we ever had on field judges) would manage seeing all of us? twould be impossible, i think. well see..there not all visual judges...theres (and correct me somene..cause i know there might be more) -percussion music judge.. -individual marching judge.. -..umm form judge?>> iono..i just know..not all are visual..and when they are..they just look at marching and parts of the form...the judging of the whole form would be done by a visual judge in the press box Quote
mitchellbc Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 i haven't seen a judge get hit, but it is my goal in life to get one someday. i've never seen one get hit... but i would love to be the one to do it!!! directors are always saying "the judges know what they're doing... they'll move. and if they don't, just keep going." Quote
BlinK Day 41 Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 well see..there not all visual judges...theres (and correct me somene..cause i know there might be more) -percussion music judge.. -individual marching judge.. -..umm form judge?>> iono..i just know..not all are visual..and when they are..they just look at marching and parts of the form...the judging of the whole form would be done by a visual judge in the press box I'm pretty sure BOA has 2 or 3 marching individual judges, and 1 visual ensemble judge Quote
Dynasty Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 BOA: 2 Visual: Ensemble and Individual (on field) 2 Music: Ensemble and Individual (on field) 3 GE: 2 Music and 1 Visual, don't know if any are on the field. Quote
BlinK Day 41 Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 ah that's right, i knew it was somewheres around there Quote
