cookie_monster Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 ok I'm curious since we're talking about judges and all - does your band have the directors walk around the field during a practice and act like judges to get everyone used to seeing them on the field? Just wondering. Quote
BlinK Day 41 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 our three head guys (band director, the lead visual guy and the lead ensemble guy) stay in the box and watch the rest of the staff walks around the field (like judges) and watches, and when we finish the rep they help fix all the things they saw wrong Quote
artishard Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 UIL doesn't, i know that. BOA does it, of course. uh, i think i passed a judge once..this one time i know i passed a judge and he was wearing this funny hat, but i couldn't laugh, and so i just forgot about him. oh, crazy awesome judges and their tapes. bluebellbrass07 Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I remember that hat! was it at arlington this year? Quote
artishard Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 haha yep, man, that guy was into it, which is his job and all, but it was just so...crazy..i've never heard someone that passionate about what they're talking about on the field. Quote
jules rogers Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 For certain practices, we had our staff go on the field during a performance and give us ratings on how well we performed, both visually and musically. I never saw an on-field judge get trapped in a form, but during one of those practices with staff on the field, I nearly KO'd our head director (read: assistant director; the guy classed as the assistant director, Mr. Burton, is the one who actually runs the marching band, while Mr. Stultz acts like an assistant director. This role is reversed during the concert season). I was marching backwards with an alto sax and he was behind, looking at people behind, and he didn't see me. All the sudden, I ran in to something and heard an "Oooff!!". Fortunately, Mr. Stultz is a little heavier than I am and didn't get plowed down. -Max Quote
