Tx_state_euph_08 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 wats up to my fellow euphonium players out there Quote
bariphonium Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Maybe I can get this topic a little more interesting.... I played on a Yamaha for my concert horn (King marching baritone) for the last three years, but at the end of my junior year one of the graduating seniors played on a Wilson euph. Since he graduated and I became second chair (we only have 2) I got his horn (1st chair kept his own Wilson). The only problem is, I went from a small-bore mouthpiece to a large-bore mouthpiece. I was actually excited with this to begin with; my sound was much more open than before, and a ton more resonant. Shortly after I got it, though, I had to tune it, and discovered my Bb to be about 50 cents flat. Literally. So I adjusted accordingly, and then discovered that my F had become 50 cents sharp. After trying for weeks to adjust my emboshure (sp?) I decided that I had to find some alternate fingerings. I ended up pulling my first and third slides out about an inch and two inches (respectivally) and now I play all of my middle F's 1 and 3. As far as I can tell, my only problem lies in the mouthpiece difference. Any suggestions? Quote

bariphonium Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 0pen is a better positioning for f unles its really low, its in tune better and its really alot easier on ur scales I'd like to play open, except that my F is 50 cents sharp. That's my problem; my F is beyond out of tune on my regular positions. Quote
wilson07 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 just try and keep your jaw as low as possible and keep your tongue at the bottom of the mouth. try doing breathing excercises and use more air. doing so will make your pitch more where it should be plus it will give a much clearer and better tone. Tx_state_euph_08 Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I went to TMEA last year and wow!! the stands are like being in heaven. Besson has this really cool euphonium with the trigger for the 4th valve so f's and e-flats aren't sharp...don't really see the need in it but it sure does look cool. Wilson horns sound really good but valves are harder to push down than any other instrument i've ever played. Yamaha custom euph's are pretty good for high school players. I say Besson makes the best euphoniums though. Quote
Dynasty Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I'd like to play open, except that my F is 50 cents sharp. That's my problem; my F is beyond out of tune on my regular positions. Are you sure your F#'s weren't 50 Cents Flat? Quote
bariphonium Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 That's a good point. Maybe I oughta look into that.... Quote
I play the baritone good Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 I used to be able to play it pretty good. Quote
buddylee Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I play euphonium. I play euphonium loud. I use weird smiley No... he's not winking... he really has something in his eye. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 I think we should make a TxBands Euph line shirt. But better than the trumpets, since we are simply the best. Quote
bariphonium Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 "Because euphoniums are just better in Texas..." OK, so maybe it's not that original, but that's not a bad idea. I might be up for it. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 I need some ideas for our shirts. I don't have a clue. We have to do better than the trumpets. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 How bout this: Trumpets: For kids not strong enough to hold up a baritone(or euph). lol yea its kinda stupid and yes I am a trator who wants to march baritone (Or euph... whats the difference?) next year. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 TRtrumpet--if you cant tell the difference---keep playing your horn. How bout this: Trumpets: For kids not strong enough to hold up a baritone(or euph). lol yea its kinda stupid and yes I am a trator who wants to march baritone (Or euph... whats the difference?) next year. and its traitor. Skippy Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 lol yea its kinda stupid and yes I am a trator who wants to march baritone (Or euph... whats the difference?) next year. Euph is bigger and stuff. Quote
Dynasty Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Euph has conical tubing, meaning the pipes get bigger. Baritone is a cylinder pipe. So yeah, Euph is bigger. Marching euphs are always (at least to my knowledge) large shank, and baritones can be small or large. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 TRtrumpet--if you cant tell the difference---keep playing your horn. and its traitor. I dont pay attention to my spelling most of the time and yea I have to do sax next year cus theres a solo. Bleh. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 So I finally have started to design the shirt for the Euphoniums. Here is my idea as of now: 1) On the front: A large Texas flag centered in the middle. Underneath it will say: EUPHS---BECAUSE WE ARE JUST BETTER IN TEXAS 2) On the back: Stock name list with school names included, grouped by last name, and at the top above the names it will say "THE ORIGINIAL, OFFICIAL TXBANDS.COM 2006 EUPH LINE" 3) On the right sleeve: Designed By: EURO_EUPH06 Color Choices) Gray, Blue, Black, or White So??????? bluebellbrass07 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 this just proves that trumpets are better cuz we had the idea first. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 this just proves that trumpets are better cuz we had the idea first. ha ha lol . Too bad most trumpet players suck almost all of the time.
