TRtrumpet Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 So for you mello players out there, I marched the trumpet this year and now im on alto for concert seaon (which im already tired of) so for next year's marching season im supposed to go back to trumpet, but our trumpet section is the largest section in our band and i realy dont think they need any more sound than they already have. The only problem is that they are all all 8th graders... but beleive it or not, pretty good. So if they are storng enough without me i might switch to the mello. How easy is it go from mello to trumpet and which one would be better for me to play on? A Bb Mello cus it has the same fingerings as a trumpet, or a F mello. To tell the truth i realy do know the difference in the two...? Quote

To tell the truth i realy do know the difference in the two...? I play mello! Mello is surprisingly easy to switch to. In our section (only 6ppl) 1 is a bassoon player, one is a trumpet player, and the rest of us are horn players.... The trumpet player is amazing on mello, he can nail all the parts! He is great! He, of course, was very talented on trumpet but nonetheless proves that switching to mello from trumpet can be done rather easily. Also trumpet players tend to have great range on both french horn and mello. A B flat mello might be better (that what our trpt player has), and you wouldn't have to worry about learning the fingerings! So if you're interested I think you should give it a shot! Quote
TRtrumpet Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 Cool. I realy want to but next year our senior trumpet is graduating so i'll be the only one that can play the 1st trumpet part cus the other trumpets are little 8th graders. Im hoping they get better do i can do mello. Quote
