That is not a slap in the face.

It is a fact that Area B is so heavily stacked that there will be a lot of good bands that would have made State in most other areas that will not make State from Area B.

For example, in 2004 there were 4 State slots from Area B and 5 very serious contenders for those slots. Richland drew the short straw and did not advance to State, but in no way does that mean that Richland was not any good; they had an awesome show and I seriously believe that they would have made State Finals.

There are likely to be only 4 State slots from Area B in 2006 as well, and can you seriously see any one of the four bands that I listed not making State? I know it is possible, it is just that when you consider the history and consistency of these programs and you look at the trends of where they will be going in the future, I think that it is highly unlikely.

Now, absolutely none of this is knocking the Martin band. Martin has been advancing a tremendous amount lately, but I just can't see it being enough to overtake one of those four bands in the late season. Now, if there is a 5th State slot from Area B (Certainly possible) then I think that Martin has a decent shot at taking it and doing well at State.

And none of what I have said is meant to discourage you or any other members of any other bands; I am just stating my opinion of how things stand. I highly encourage you and any other band to prove my predictions wrong as I very much enjoy and am very pleased when a band does better than I thought that they would.

Hey, we tied Richland at area, ya know. Just thought I should mention... youknow, in reply to the story about Richland... but I understand the rest as well. Hopefully there will be at least 25 bands to go to area... hmm... I think we have a good chance of knocking off enough to go to state either way though. No body else has mentioned this, but I get the feeling that compared to next year, Mr. Hart was just messing around this year. I get teh feelig the hammer is coming down next year in a big way. Of course, Mr. Lowe, our percussion director, instead of going to run the perc. for phantom regiment over the summer is actually staying back with us to whip the drumline into shape from the get go on his own. Plus, if you look at our younger percussionist's performance lately... well, let's just say our battery certainly won't leave anything to be desired. Not to mention the fact taht he does an amazing job at slapping us into shape as well. In addition, we are going to have the UTA marching director around (you know, the one who helped us those 2 days before North Texas) will be around pretty frequently as well. And we can rest assured we'll have another amazing show next year; according to my sources, we will be using the guidance of much of the head Phantom Regiment staff to select/develop our show for next year. There's probably more, but I gotta go do something...

Well now I have to answer for my comment.

I never intended it to look like Xenon was insulting the Martin Band, I was just pointing out what this quote said

  Quote
yes the martin band will go to state and dominate all

and what Xenon said here

  Quote

These four bands are almost definite locks to advance to state: (Alphabetical order)

Haltom

LD Bell

Marcus

Richland

And these are on the bubble but won't likely make it: (And at least one of them won't make Area Finals) (No Order)

Mansfield Summit

Arlington Martin

Colleyville Heritage

Newman Smith

Lewisville

Plano East

Allen

I wasn't saying that you were insulting the Martin band.

The "slap in the face" was regarding Xenon's comment to Martinbandownsyou06's comment. THAT'S ALL.

I looked at the recap again and you are right, both of you had a Rank Score of 26. I didn't realize that it was that close in Finals. But if you compare the ranks from Prelims and Finals, Richland went down siginificantly in Rank Score and Martin shot up dramatically. In Prelims Richland was 4th and Martin was 7th.

But Finals is where it matters. Good job at catching Richland then.

I guess in that context it kind of was. I am just used to the BOA Forums where self-hype is dealt with a little more harshly and with plenty of encouragement to just "prove it on the field."

Lmao, I can't remember who that person is that originally posted that, but it's probably also a symptom of being part of trumpet line... because, you know, we own. Lmao... but yeah, we'll see what next season is like. No one can really know for sure....

Lol, our band always marches better at night, for sure. If I remember correctly though, we didn't have the greatest spot.. we were preceded by LD Bell and followed by Haltom, if I remember correctly. Our show last year was Brazoswood's show from this year.

I believe that our (Connally) band will do awsome next year. WE have been informed that we are taking our whole program up a notch and bumping up our tempos and building a boa show. We are attending BOA sa for the first time since 2001. We wil probably got to duncavncille, and westlake. So look out for CHS

hebron will be going 5A next year as well. we barely missed the 5A mark two years ago.

I wondered why Hebron was so ridiculously large compared to the other 4A bands (including us) when I saw them last year... I thought the school just had an excessive amount of band kids and I dubbed the band the "Hebron Horde"... I guess I was wrong.

Good God, stop hyping your freakin school... Its really annoying, and it doesn't make you any better. Are there any humble people at Martin High?

Lmao, not in the trunmpet section. You should see our Section Shirt... It's friggin pimp, lol. You know the poster from the old star wars movies where luke is like holding the ligthsaber above his head and the plane is in the background? Well, it's like that except it's a trumpet instead of a light saber and it says, in the Star Wars font, "MHS Trumpets-- Return of the Egos", lol. ANd on the back it says

  Quote
"I'm better than you"

"It's hard to be humble when you're this good"

"Do not feed the egos"

The saga continues

Trumpet line '05-'06

Lmao, all those quotes are from previous year's shirts... so yeah, it's a traditional of arrogance really. But in actuality, if you actually read his post, he isn't hyping the band; he is merely saying that he feels like it isn't getting enough credit. But it doesn't matter. Time will tell.

Hmm, I've noticed a general attitude problem with Martin too... just from these forums, anyhow. Thankfully, our school is sitting here in Central Texas, so we don't really care. Everyone around here doesn't look much farther than... well... the Central Texas area. Unfortunately. And another thing... does your school have a sizable number of people with "gangsta" attitudes? If this is true, I'd like to know why.

people are really ****. im tired of retarded people dissing our band were you not at north texas band championships to see our band. " So watch out."

That is a textbook example of hyping... he said:

A:People that said comments about his band were "****"

B: "Were you there to see us"

and Finally C: Watch out

Thats hyping, not to mention the hundreds of other posts from martin kids. Even some of your screen names are annoying. Stop it.

But like I said, we'll see how well founded our pride is come next season.

No... thats hyping, people don't like you for that. Its one thing to have pride, but have a little humility.

Posted

umm.... what? Are you saiying the part you quoted is hyping? If so, I think you are sorely mistaken. Once again, I must reiterate, we will see how it turns out next season, but we go into it with a strong confidence. IF we get our asses handed to us, then you can say "Haha! Told you so! Pure hype", but if we own, I think then we'll know whether or not it had any basis in fact.

I concur with Moose... besides that, I'd like to mention that I have come to hate the current saying of our band as an excuse for mediocrity rather than an inspiration for hard work, as it only seems to have been said by us on days when we, as usual, don't make the finals round. "We're only freshmen and sophomores." (Changed this year to "we're mostly only freshmen and sophomores.") It seems that, overall, when humbled, we prefer to give up. There are a small number of exceptions.
